Long Week Wrap-Up; The Perfect Date? I’d Have To Say April 25th.

Woah!  It’s been almost two weeks; this is going to be a loooooong post, and that’s after I cut out a whole bunch of stuff.  I left in lots of coffee, dinners in bowls, and tasty medjool dates.  I’ve had a bad case of the Blogging Blahs recently and I just can’t get myself to sit down and write.  Even though I’m not talking about it much, we have been eating fancy meals and doing fun things.  Like spending last Saturday in Manhattan…

DSC09987DSC09986DSC09990

On our way to the theatre!

DSC09991

We saw Bullets Over Broadway and loved it.  Zach Braff – one of my idols – played the lead and the show was super funny.

Here is some of what’s gone on {my plate} since I last posted – –

breakfasts and lunches

Amazing hot chocolate and a vanilla almond KIND bar.

DSC00027

Smoothie = frozen banana, dates, vanilla almond milk, vanilla almond butter, cinnamon-maple sugar, and vanilla bean paste.

DSC00048

Yogurt bowl.  2% Fage topped with cooked strawberries, chopped date, and pecans.

DSC00089

Yogurt lunch.

DSC00015

Dannon coffee Greek yogurt,

DSC00018

plus dates with sweet and spicy pecans, and an apple.

DSC00020

Super salad.  I packed spring mix topped with blue cheese, sweet and spicy pecans, and chopped apple, then added some Italian dressing from the salad bar at work.  P.S. The cafeteria was on point this week; I bought several cheesy slices of pizza and had creamy lobster bisque with giant pieces of meat.

DSC00044

Lunch with Au Bon Pain.  They sent me some coupons to try out their new late spring menu.

DSC09973

We tried the Sriracha Chicken Sandwich—all-natural chicken with Sriracha sauce, pickled banana peppers, arugula, tomatoes and lemon aioli on a baguette.  Interesting, but not too spicy for the husband.

DSC09975

A Lemon and Sweet Cheese CroisBun – flaky croissant blended with butter bun, filled with sweet cheese and lemon curd.

DSC09978

And an Arnold Palmer with their black currant iced tea.

DSC09981

Everything was really yummy, but we were pretty annoyed because the location we chose was out of the new salads, both of which sounded amazing.

[BBQ Chicken Salad—all-natural chicken marinated in barbecue sauce, romaine, roasted corn, tomatoes, cucumbers, three-cheddar blend and light ranch dressing.  Fresh Fruit & Baby Kale Salad—fresh watermelon, strawberries, mandarin oranges, feta and sliced almonds on a bed of baby kale and balsamic vinaigrette.]

I will not be going back to that location, but I will be heading to ABP for a salad asap.

drinks and desserts

Many iced lattes with my magic milk straws.

DSC00022

Also the cookie dough iced coffee from Dunkin is still great.

DSC09982

And this double espresso over ice – with skim milk and sugar – from Café Dada that filled me with joy.

DSC09966

We are officially giving two thumbs up to Rice Dream’s Horchata.

DSC09914

Adam actually liked it even more than I did.

DSC09917

Still working my way through Buzzfeed’s Frozen Treat’s list; #33 was cholado from Las Americas Bakery.

DSC09920

We got Raspado, shaved ice with homemade fruit syrup and sweetened condensed milk.

DSC09923

Caramel date shake – sea salt caramel gelato blended with dates and skim milk.

DSC00057

Frozen hot chocolate from Tim Horton’s.  Please note – they sent me a free coupon so I could sample this new product.

DSC09924

It wasn’t as good as the frozen hot chocolate, but it was definitely delicious.  We would plan on purchasing them again this summer.  The fudge on top was out of control.

DSC09928

This cookie dough candy was as good as you’d expect it to be.  <– i.e. if that sort of thing sounds good to you then you’ll probably like it but if you thought“dear god, why would you dip cookie dough in chocolate” then you’ll probably think it’s too sweet.  I thoroughly enjoyed half and then was happy to throw the rest away.

DSC00037

Brooklyn Farmacy is officially our new favorite place.

DSC09965

A family restored the 1920’s pharmacy and turned it into a soda fountain heaven.  The music, fixtures, and staff wardrobe are all throw-backs to the ’20s but in a way that is touching and kitschy rather than cheesy (think classy, not Johnny Rockets).

DSC09959

We shared a hibiscus float and a maple egg cream that were both indescribably good.

DSC09961

We practically ordered a second round!

dinners

Farro bowls.  Leftover farro tossed with soy sauce and rice vinegar / sautéed shiitake mushrooms and shredded carrots / sauerkraut sautéed with Sriracha and sugar / sliced cucumber / and a fried egg.

DSC09898

Here it is before the egg went down.

DSC09895

Pasta bowls.

DSC09906

Whole wheat linguine / spinach and roasted broccoli / sauce made of a raw egg cracked into the hot pasta plus a splash of milk and huge handful of shredded swiss cheese / topped with panko fried with evoo, smoked paprika, and truffle salt.

DSC09912

Burrito bowl at Calexico.  Rice / black beans / guacamole / cojita cheese / avocado sauce / and jalopeños.

DSC00039

Old-school burger and fries at Bareburger.  Turkey burger – on a bun! – with pickle chips, tomato, lettuce, mayo, and ketchup.  Just like a McDonald’s burger from when I was a kid.

DSC00052DSC00054

Cheese plate!  Assembled entirely of items from Trader Joe’s.

DSC09936

Dates, salmon jerky,

DSC09940

orange slices, pear,

DSC09942

rosemary crackers,

DSC09948

and Italian truffle cheese.

DSC09945

The cheese was an early appetizer for our sushi night.

DSC09952

I got a pickle veggie roll and a non-authentic fried stuff roll.  Both were only ok.  We had sushi a couple of times over the past weeks and none of it has been very good.

A fancy dinner, after our date at the theatre, at Stone Park Café.

DSC09995DSC09998

We started with a salad of baby arugula, toasted pecans, artichoke hearts, and blue cheese vinaigrette.

DSC00005

And the scallop and marrow tacos.  Uggggh.  These were insane.

DSC00002

I had seared Catham cod with Odessa eggplant, baby bok choy, and lemon gremolata.  Apparently this was the first time I tasted cod outside of fish and chips?!  SPC is one of our favorite restaurants in the city so I know this was good, but I wasn’t a big fan.

DSC00012

Adam’s dinner blew mine out of the water.  Butternut squash and thyme ravioli with brown butter, pine nuts, and mixed mushrooms.

DSC00008

Thankfully he was very generous with shared bites.

Are you sick of this post yet?  That’s all she wrote!

Weekly Wrap-Up; Recipes, Redone

Hey there!  I’m a few days late with this post because the dog had a vet appointment late Thursday night.  He had to get about a million shots – we did all of his blood draws and vaccinations in one fell swoop – but was such a little trooper.  He is so freaking cute!

Things were good with the human members of the house as well.  I remade two of my old recipes this week with great success.  It was a busy but satisfying week at work.  And now my brother-in-law is here to play! I’m saving our Friday night fun for Monday’s weekend post, but here is the last week…

breakfast

Tropical smoothie.

DSC09610

Crushed pineapple, frozen banana, toasted coconut, and vanilla almond milk.  I should have added nutmeg to this because that’s what I put on my piña coladas.

Fancy fruit salad.

DSC09646

This salad was insane and I need to make it again immediately.  Blackberries, minneola, lime juice/zest, maple syrup, toasted coconut, and hemp hearts.

DSC09651

Plus a Blueberry Oat Almond THINaddictive.

DSC09648

The thin was part of a sweet box of samples that Nonni’s sent me.

DSC09618

Their sweet and crunchy biscotti almond thins – which have only 100 calories per package and less than 2 grams of saturated fat – are out in two new flavors: blueberry oat and banana dark chocolate.  I was a fan of both.

lunch

Asian and apples.

DSC09588

My Pad See Ew leftovers were still great cold.

DSC09596

With Brown Sugar Sea Salt Seaweed Snacks and a Lady Alice apple.

DSC09593

I made my own to-go oatmeal bowls this week! 1/3 cup of rolled oats and 1 Tbsp of malted milk powder, plus toppings.  I took them to work in glass Tupperware and then put enough hot water (for the tea in the cafeteria) in the bowl to just cover the oats.  By the time I got back up to my department they were perfect!  I will probably still buy the packaged ones as well, but this was a very exciting development.

DSC09624

Berries and cream oatmeal = white chocolate chips and freeze-dried strawberries.

The rest of my fruit salad was wonderful at lunch.

DSC09668

Crushed pineapple,

DSC09671

fruit salad,

DSC09674

and a peach Fage,

DSC09676

were all stirred together into a tasty bowl.

Homemade oatmeal part deux.

DSC09679

Crushed pecans, dark chocolate chips, and toasted coconut.

DSC09683

Plus an apple.

snack

Afternoon espresso when I really wanted candy.

DSC09614

I compromised by putting an obscene amount of sugar into my coffee.

Honestly, I had terrible bedtime habits all week and my afternoons took a lot of coffees.  Made even more exciting by the Cookies and Cream Magic Straws from my Easter basket.

DSC09678

A Banana Dark Chocolate Almond THINaddictive.

DSC09622

I was expecting to like this flavor the most but ended up preferring the blueberry; this was good but the banana was a tiny bit fake tasting.

Pink Lady.  I have been loving apples recently.

DSC09660

We made milkshakes.

DSC09627

Café Latte Frozen Greek Yogurt, chocolate milk, malted milk powder, and ice.

And speaking of milk, I ate about a million cookies this week.

DSC09715

Don’t forget, you have until Monday to enter my giveaway.

dinner

My first recipe redo.

DSC09631

Shallotta Salmon Burgers.  They aren’t orange fyi, that’s just bad lighting.

DSC09640

Shredded Brussels sprouts cooked with coconut oil, crushed pecans, chopped celery, and swiss/gruyere cheese.

DSC09637

I added too much oil to my veggies and they were good but a little ridiculous.

My other recipe redo was my Healthy Spinach Pesto.

DSC09696

A total success, stirred into pasta with broccoli and tons and turkey bacon.

DSC09737

I’m off for family fun time! xoxo

Weekly Wrap-Up; Eggs And Easter Candy

I’m bouncing back from a bad migraine this afternoon so this post might be lacking my usual witty prose (<– just go with it).  I don’t want to think that too much sugar may have been a potential trigger for the migraine, but it will probably be hard to convince you otherwise once you finish the post 🙂  Also, upon completion I am forced to note that 90% of these pictures are pretty god-awful.  The food was yummy though, I swear!

lunch

Oatmeal Monday.

DSC09364

Apple on the side.

DSC09373

Quaker Summer Berry Oatmeal,

DSC09372

topped with Reese’s eggs.

DSC09368

I read the egg carton further that night and discovered that they contain trans fat, dun dun dun! – so I had to throw the rest out.  My only hard and fast nutrition rule is never eat trans fats.

Spicy Sandwich Tuesday.  A whole wheat Sandwich Thin with Applegate Farms Herbed Turkey, Fontina cheese, strawberry jam, and pickled jalopeños that seemed to have retained a lot of their heat.

DSC09380

I cooled down with cinnamon applesauce.

DSC09384

And crunched through kale chips.

DSC09387

Worst.  Photo.  Ever.

Egg Salad Wednesday.

DSC09408

This batch of egg salad was made with tons of caramelized onions, miracle whip, smoked paprika, and raisins.  It was fabulous stuffed inside a Pocket Thin.

DSC09412

With the rest of the kale chips and an apple.

DSC09419

Leftovers Thursday.

DSC09451

See more of this casserole down in dinners.

DSC09458

With a wonderfully crisp Lady Alice apple and Haribo colas.

DSC09452

Last of the Egg Salad Friday, aka today.

DSC09465

This time with a slice of Fontina.

dinner

Stir fry night.

DSC09395

Served on top of packaged Kung Pao noodles.

DSC09378

My ‘fry contained edamame, bamboo shoots, straw mushrooms, and pineapples, cooked in pineapple juice and green curry paste.

DSC09390

I usually try to put too much into my stir fries and I end up hating them; this simple version was fantastic.

Stir fry leftovers.

DSC09406

My veggies, plus steamed sweet potato chunks, and fish sauce and soy sauce, cooked in evoo, with an egg at the end.

A winning new recipe.

DSC09430

Turkey Reuben Casserole.

DSC09423

DSC09441

Plus spinach and baby kale sautéed with evoo and dried blueberries.

DSC09437

Let’s be real, I pretty much choked down those greens.

Chipotle post-migraine.

DSC09469

Brown rice with peppers, chicken, lettuce, cheese, and lots of mild salsa.

snacks, aka Easter candy

I made a Cadbury Cream Egg Cream.  What?!

DSC09377

It actually didn’t work all that well, I felt like my eggs got burnt in the microwave, but I salvaged it with a bit of chocolate milk.  Adam and I were both pretty pleased with the final result.

Speaking of candy eggs, these Ferrero ones from my basket were sure gone in a hurry.

DSC09402

Just like a Rocher but without the nut in the center.

Grape Crush licorice.

DSC09459

When I veered away from the Easter goodies my snacks went horribly awry.  I got an email from Dunkin that a Coolatta would earn me 25 bonus points and, sucker for loyalty rewards that I am, I had to get one.

DSC09421

Disgusting.  It wasn’t homogenous at all; the coffee, milk, and sweetener separated into terrible layers.

That was a bad note to end on, but overall it was a tasty week.

Weekly Wrap-Up; Have A Hoppy Easter

Who else has been hitting the chocolate eggs this week?  Easter candy abounds!  We are spending the holiday with my in-laws – all three of our nieces! – so I’m going radio-silent on the blog front this weekend to focus on family time.  I’m planning on skipping my weekend post, I’m not even packing a camera, and I’ll be back with a weekly wrap-up next Friday.

breakfast

Iced Americano with chocolate milk.

DSC09314I tried the cafeteria breakfast.

DSC09341Scrambled eggs with turkey and veggie sausage.  The coffee cup held wonderful Cisse milk chocolate vanilla bean hot chocolate.

DSC09337lunch

Oatmeal.

DSC09251Quaker Honey and Almonds with Justin’s Chocolate Hazelnut Butter.

DSC09255And an apple.

DSC09258Plus I snagged this delicious, thick!, strawberry lemonade from the cafeteria.

DSC09312Egg salad.

DSC09291We made awesome egg salad for lunches this week; medium-boiled eggs, finely chopped celery and green and red pepper, miracle whip, pickle relish, mustard, and dill.  Packed in a whole wheat pocket thin.

DSC09294Plus wasabi seaweed and grapes.

DSC09297The next day was chicken salad.  A whole wheat bagel thin with chicken salad, fontina cheese, and pickled jalopeños.

DSC09332Plus an apple to take away some of the heat.  Peppers were the perfect addition to that sandwich.

DSC09327I packed cookies, but I put them aside for a treat my coworker brought it, an Easter bun with cheese.

DSC09344snack

Easter candy, duh.

DSC09363Juicy bears.

DSC09309Cafe Dada iced coffee that the husband sweetly delivered when he picked me up from work one day.

DSC09315Cookies.

DSC09347Cereal bowl.

DSC09282This was a sample of Graham Crunch from Cascadian Farm with vanilla almond milk.

DSC09278DSC09280Very tasty.  This stuff is just begging to be made into cereal s’mores bars.

I made my new favorite milkshake for Adam and myself.

DSC09334Coffee frozen Greek yogurt with chocolate milk and toasted coconut.

Bubble teas from Kung Fu Tea.  Coffee milk tea for me.

DSC09351dinner

Dinner at a diner.

DSC09265I got an eggplant parm panini.

DSC09266It was yummy but ridiculously filling.

DSC09270And then we had pie!

DSC09272Cream pie!  My slice was banana cream.

DSC09274It was flipping fantastic.

Chicken salad.

DSC09300Big piles of Nana’s chicken salad.

DSC09306With roasted green beans.

DSC09304On Wednesday we went to Williamsburg for dinner with a girlfriend.  She took us to Snacky.

DSC09321DSC09318It was fantabulous.  The space was adorable and the menu was all my favorite things.  Adam and I split a salad with seaweed and sesame dressing.

DSC09322And I got a rice bowl with spicy bbq miso chicken, plus kimchi and a fried egg.

DSC09326I swooned my way through that bowl.  It was perfect, exactly my favorite meal.

And we made similar(ish) bowls for dinner at home the next day.

DSC09358A hash of chopped sweet potato, browned mushrooms, sliced spinach, green onions, and smoked trout with rosemary and smoked paprika.  Topped with a fried egg.

DSC09361Put an egg on it!

Have a great weekend!

Weekly Wrap-Up; All By Myself

Adam is on spring break right now so I gave him my free ticket voucher and he spent a week in St. Thomas with my parents.  They are all disgustingly in love with each other and had a fabulous time.  Meanwhile I was home alone but at least I had the dog.

webster

Furry cuddles totally got me through.  And I definitely took advantage of meals as a single lady.

breakfast

Fruit and yogurt bowl.

DSC09095

A strawberry Fage topped with fresh pineapple and cara cara orange.

A lackluster morning.

DSC09124

A bottle of iced coffee that I thought tasted artificial and threw out halfway through.

DSC09127

And a NuGo bar that was nowhere near as tasty as their salted pretzel variety.

DSC09128

Smoothie.

DSC09157

Coffee greek yogurt with frozen blackberries, toasted coconut, and chocolate milk.  <– Fantabulous

Smoothie 2 was frozen mango, blackberries, and spinach with coconut water.

DSC09191

Have you tried the ice cream coffees from Dunkin?  This was butter pecan.

DSC09180

I tried the cookie dough last weekend too and it was legit amazing.

lunch

Salad day.

DSC09111

Arugula with carrots, pea shoots, honey roasted almonds, buckwheat groats, blue cheese, dried blueberries, and vinaigrette.

DSC09101

Plus a cara cara orange and tamarind balls from home.

DSC09108

My coworkers are mostly all from the Caribbean as well and they were thrilled that I shared my tamarind shipment.

Oatmeal and apples.

DSC09148

Cherry Pistachio from Quaker.

DSC09149

And Cherry Vanilla from Big Slice.

DSC09153

This was the first flavor of these kettle cooked apples that I didn’t like.

Sandwich spread.

DSC09165

An everything bagel thin with strawberry jam, sharp cheddar, smoked turkey, and banana peppers.

DSC09167

Plus spicy peanut cucumber salad.

DSC09172

And raspberry candies and the last orange.

DSC09168

snack

Paper bag popcorn.

DSC09121

Prune chocolates my Russian coworker shared.

DSC09194

I ate this entire bag of Inner Peas in one sitting.

DSC09201

It was pathetic but also delicious.

I topped with cool tub of fig yogurt with white chocolate chips and toasted coconut.

DSC09196DSC09197

Cookie mugs rocked my face of this week.

DSC09087

I use this recipe, but swap the ratio of white to brown sugar.

DSC09188

Do ittttttt.

dinner

Salad night.

DSC09113

I had a TJ’s pretzel bread in the car as an appetizer.

DSC09097

Then topped a giant bowl of arugula and pea shoots with medium-boiled eggs, blue cheese, turkey bacon, shredded carrot, yogurt blue cheese dressing, and truffle salt.

DSC09117

And now medium-boiled eggs are my new favorite thing.

A combination of nibbles.  Pretzels straight from the bag.

DSC09131

A granny smith dipped in peanut butter and lavender caramel.

DSC09137

And baby carrots with red pepper hummus.

DSC09138

Green eggs and ham.

DSC09174

Eggs scrambled with okra, arugula, and swiss cheese.

DSC09177

Soup’s up.

DSC09185

This poblano and corn chowder was delicious.

DSC09183

And now we’re off to do fun spring break stuff!

Weekend Wrap-Up; I’ve Got Recipes To Share

Like the title says – “I’ve got recipes to share!”  I managed to whip up some really great meals this weekend.  That accomplishment is even more impressive when you consider the cold I’m working through.  <– let’s consider my horn fully tooted, huh?  I was talking to my dad on Saturday morning about how glad I was to have missed Adam’s recent bout of illness and by that night I felt terrible.  Unfortunately I’ve felt progressively worse since.  Hopefully tomorrow will put me on the upswing.

breakfasts and snacks

Recipe #1 – Almond Joy Baked Oatmeal.

DSC08935

This stuff was yummy.  Click the link above for the recipe.

DSC08942

Green apple slices dipped in melty peanut butter.

DSC08977

We tried a new type of citrus from Whole Foods, pixie tangerines.  They were great; nice and sweet with no seeds.

DSC08978

Healthy or sick, I’m all about the coffee.  Iced brown sugar cinnamon latte from Dunkin.

DSC08949

Tall iced vanilla macchiato from Starbucks just a few hours later.  I asked for regular drizzle but sugar-free syrup and it was a definite improvement.

DSC08952

And a clover-brewed Kona blend during my last set of errands the next day.

DSC08971

A handful of chocolates.

DSC08966

Adam and I split this Southern Hibiscus and Peach Milk Chocolate Bar.  There were little bits of chewy peach embedded throughout.

DSC08974

I made the best milkshake.  Dannon Oikos Café Latte Greek Frozen Yogurt blended with chocolate milk and toasted coconut.  It rocked my socks off.

DSC08969

I had several sips of the husband’s Polar Vortex.

DSC08982

Usually we don’t have the same taste in beers but we both thought this Dunkel Lager was delicious.

dinners

Our Mexican dinner fell through on Friday.  Several false starts later, we ended up at Mint.

DSC08928

I had Jack Daniels Honey with mint, lime, and simple syrup to drink.

DSC08927

On my plate was rice with sauce from Adam’s chicken and a big pile of bhindi-do-pyaza – okra sautéed with onion and tomato.

DSC08930

Our food was good but it was so flipping loud in there that I’m not sure we’ll ever go back.

Dinners at home were much better.  Like Sweet Onion, Bacon, Blue Cheese Burgers.

DSC08954

On a slice of buttered, toasted sourdough with a pile of pea shoots on top.

DSC08964

And last night we had shrimp and veggie (white)rice bowls.

DSC08991

I used this recipe as a guide but went with pepper jelly and grapefruit juice.

DSC08981

Plus we bulked our bowls up with roasted broccoli and cauliflower.

DSC08987

Adam said I hit it out of the park!  That was the last of our big bag of frozen shrimp and I definitely want to buy more.

Did you make anything great this weekend?

Weekly Highlights

I don’t have enough pictures to constitute a wrap-up post this week, but I am going to share some of the highlights.  What you’re not seeing is all of the meals that I purchased out – which was pretty much all of them.  Also three million pieces of gummy candy, give or take.

This week was very busy; I literally just was not home most nights to cook my own food.  And the few I was home, Adam was working at night so my motivation to cook my own food was quite low.  One day I had last-minute shopping errands.  One day I had a professional development on nutrition for cardiovascular disease (<– it was great!) that kept me in Manhattan until after 10 pm, meaning I didn’t get back home again until almost midnight.  And one day I had to go back to the salon to fix my janky hair.

DSC08800

I couldn’t get a good picture, but all of the color bled out of the front leaving me with gray/green pieces that looked highly unprofessional.  Now I’m back to boring brown and the purple will be sorely missed!

Here were some of the very best bites from this week…

Rice bowls three days straight?  Why not?

DSC08779

DSC08781DSC08795A strawberry aloe yogurt drink that I split with Adam.

DSC08796

A fantasmic cup of Quatro Leches (Tres Leches plus dulce de leche) that I found at the grocery store.

DSC08783

A delicious packed work lunch of oatmeal with kettle-cooked apples.

DSC08774

DSC08775DSC08771And last, but certainly not least, a Creamy Pink Grapefruit Spritzer.  Which, ps, Adam liked so much he actually asked for the recipe and made one on his own.

DSC08788

That’s all, folks!  I have looks of kitchen time planned for my weekend so I promise the next wrap-up will have a little more tofu meat.

Weekend Wrap-Up; Equations With Pie

Happy Monday, all!  Did everyone else enjoy Pi Day on Friday (March 14 –>  3/14  –>  3.14)?  People usually celebrate the date by eating pie and/or pizza{pie}.  We went with the sweet variety, though now that I think about it we had pizza over the weekend too.

In random order, here are the eats I have to share…

lunch

Friday at work.

DSC08672

A pepperoni and cheese snack box,

DSC08674

and a GT’s Synergy Grape Chia Kombucha.

DSC08676

We got lunch at Noodle & Co. while running errands on Saturday.

DSC08724

DSC08725I got the Japanese pan noodles – caramelized udon noodles in a sweet soy sauce, broccoli, carrots, shiitake mushrooms, Asian sprouts, black sesame and cilantro.

DSC08730

I paid for extra veggies, which got me a whopping 3 tiny pieces of broccoli.  We were not impressed.

dinner

Easy dinner on Friday to leave room for pie.

DSC08680

Eggs scrambled with kale and corn.

DSC08683

Pizza on Saturday.  My half was topped with mushroom.

DSC08732

I got my veggies in the form of Sweet Greens.

DSC08722

Sunday was Chipotle take-out.

DSC08762

I planned on saving half of my meal for Adam (he was working the night shift) but I ended up eating every single bite of rice bowl and chips!

DSC08767

It doesn’t look like much, but my “meat” was sofritas – shredded tofu braised with chiles, poblanos, and spices – and it was delicious.

brunch

Au Bon Pain debuted a new seasonal Spring Menu on March 10th and they sent me a gift certificate so I could review their newest bakery item.  – please note: I was able to sample the new items free of charge.  I was not provided further compensation for this post.  All opinions are my own. –

Adam and I decided to do a late Sunday morning brunch.

DSC08743

Coffee – a skim, iced Caffé Viennese – and a Sweet Cheese CroisBun, aka their new croissant and sweet bun hybrid.

DSC08747

The outside was wonderfully flakey and sweet but the inside was what really shined.  The sweet cheese was sooooo moist – the main reason I usually don’t eat Danish is because they tend to get dried out, but this was amazing.  There was a sweet cheese and strawberry variety that looked yummy too.

I also got a Sesame Ginger Chicken Salad.

DSC08737

DSC08739Very good as well.  The seasoning on the chicken provided so much flavor.  Other options from the new menu include a Chicken Wasabi Wrap and Black Currant Iced Tea that I quite want to try.

snackage

Pi Day celebration from Four & Twenty Blackbirds.

DSC08686

DSC08678I got our slices to-go but the space was super adorable and I am dying to go back.

Oatmeal black bottom – I didn’t love the texture of the oats within the pie but Adam was a big fan –

DSC08689

Salted honey – custard with the perfect balance of salt and sweet –

DSC08692

Lemon chess – my favorite variety; packed with pucker –

DSC08694

We were both very pleased.  And we sat on the couch, holding hands, eating pie, and watching tv, so it was pretty much the best night ever.

And on Saturday I put the leftover lemon chess pie in vanilla bean Greek yogurt.

DSC08736

Perfection.

On Sunday, a girlfriend and I went to a gelato making class.

DSC08748

DSC08751DSC08753We came home with 4 pints each.

DSC08759

The class was fun, but I’m honestly not that thrilled with the taste/quality of my pints.  At least we went on a Groupon.

The highlight of my weekend – other than time with the husband, obvs – was getting my hands on this:

DSC08755

Diet cherry coke slurpee, for the win!  It tasted like dreams.  Even my friend, who’s not an addict like I am, said it was tasty.

What was the highlight of your weekend?
