Pumpkin Everywhere

It was a good week for pumpkin; I snuck it into my coffee, smoothie, pasta, beer, and nachos!  Highlights from the week included…

La Colombe Pumpkin Spice Draft Latte.

IMG_1686

Homemade salted maple cold foam coffee.

IMG_1653

Pumpkin pie smoothie.  Pumpkin puree, plain Greek yogurt, sour cream, maple syrup, clove, and skim milk.  Pumpkin smoothies end up basically being puddings!

IMG_1716

Homemade fall flavors trail mix with Maple Cheerios, raisins, salted peanuts, and yogurt covered peanuts.  Plus a SweeTango apple.

IMG_1642

Adam and I went on a date to try the new Cannoli Bar.  Cannolis aren’t really my thing, but our bicerin – that’s drinking chocolate with espresso and frothed half and half – knocked my socks off.

IMG_20181011_171410_599

Whole Foods hot bar.  Including coconut chicken tenders, furikake fried tofu, horseradish and scallion cauliflower, vegan curry, plus an assortment of other veggies.

IMG_1728

This cheesy veggie bowl was one of my favorite dinners I’ve made all year.  Roasted broccoli / roasted potatoes (cooked similarly to this recipe) / topped with a take on vegetarian queso fundido – sharp cheddar, sour cream, green onion, yellow onion, serrano pepper, and Trader Joe’s vegan chorizo.  I enjoyed this so much I ended up eating my entire bowl followed by most of Adam’s!

IMG_1657

Pumpkin nacho night!  Trader Joe’s pumpkin tortilla chips baked with green onion, yellow, onion, sharp cheddar, and maple chicken sausage.  Then topped with copious amounts of Cholula and sour cream.  Plus roasted broccoli on the side.

IMG_1681

Pumpkin on pumpkin on pumpkin dinner.

IMG_1702

Trader Joe’s pumpkin pasta tossed with a sauce made of pumpkin puree, sour cream, shallots, spices, sage, maple chicken sausage, soyrizo, and parmesan cheese.

IMG_1710

Plus pumpkin beers.  I thought the AleWerks pumpkin ale was too sweet (though Adam was a big fan) but really enjoyed the Punkin Ale from Dogfish Head.

IMG_1705

Pumpkin purchase recommendations?  All of it!  Every product (and recipe) was delicious.  The La Colombe and AleWerks items weren’t quite to my taste, but Adam enjoyed them both so I can’t say I wouldn’t recommend trying them yourself.

1st Week Of Pumpkin Month

It’s Pumpkin Month!  Check out this year’s stash –

IMG_1503

IMG_1515

IMG_1510

Here is some of the gourdy goodness I’ve eaten so far…

Pumpkin milk iced coffee.

IMG_1528

Chobani pumpkin with maple Cheerios.

IMG_1585

Trader Joe’s pumpkin yogurt with Justin’s maple cashew butter, plus a rave apple and a chocolate chip cookie.

IMG_1543

Other tasty things from the past week include…

Duck confit hash from Farm Bell Kitchen.

IMG_20181007_115202_366

Mexican candy with guava paste and dulce de leche.

IMG_1567

Grapefruit yogurt drink with mango jelly and popping grape boba.

IMG_1612

Vietnamese caramel chicken with jasmine rice and sauteed bok choy and shredded carrot.

IMG_1555

Shrimp fried rice, cooked on a sheet pan.  <– this is such a fantastic idea!  We will definitely use this method again

IMG_1580

Spinach and artichoke chicken (similar to this recipe) with roasted cauliflower.

IMG_1614

Apple Adventures

Nothing this week has been as exciting as our food in New York, but I have had some fun eating through my apple month stash.  Here were some recent highlights…

Coffee from Brooklyn Roasting Company.

IMG_1153

Caramel + Apple Noosa.  <– Noosa is always tasty but this would have been a billion times better if the two flavors were just mixed together and not “split” side by side

IMG_1122

Apple chips with chocolate peanut butter dip.

IMG_1176

Freeze-dried apples.

IMG_1135

This week’s trail mix obsession was homemade – dried apples, yogurt covered pretzels, roasted peanuts, and honey roasted peanuts.

IMG_1159

I made chilaquiles(ish) for dinner.  Sauteed yellow and orange bell pepper with green salsa, cotija, and tortilla chips, topped with a fried egg and Cholula.  This was so good I ate leftovers the next day and they were still yummy.

IMG_1142

Greek(ish) salad night.  Baby romaine, ranch, olives, adorably tiny baby heirloom tomatoes, roasted chickpeas, and dolmas.

IMG_1170

Hell Of A Halvah

Highlights from this week…

It’s really lovely to have a husband who arranges me flowers and buys me cupcakes when I’m cranky!  Related note – it’s also really nice to live walking distance from Sweethaus because apparently they are our favorite cupcakes on the planet.

IMG_0377

Random drink assortment from work, the lemon rose blossom water was surprisingly delicious.

IMG_0397

Weirdest/most exciting snack award goes to – this Japanese candy we brought home from NY.  It was like a fun dip but with a cola flavored lollipop and fizzy milk powder.

IMG_0404

Fantastic product sample – Absolutely Gluten Free sent me their newest snack item: TahiniBARs.  Halvah is a candy made of sesame paste and it is both Adam’s and my very favorite treat.

IMG_0277

The TahiniBARS come in vanilla, pistachio, and cocoa nibs.  They are certified kosher, dairy free, and gluten free.  Each serving has 100 calories.

IMG_0292

We LOVED them!  They absolutely stacked up to the halvah I grew up eating and the artisinal varieties we’ve had in NY.

IMG_0295

One of my favorite ways to eat halvah is crumbled up in yogurt, so one day I made an absolutely ridiculous snack – plain Greek yogurt / vanilla TahiniBAR / Soom chocolate tahini spread / red plum and green pluot.  Delicious.

IMG_0343

We had some tasty dinner too.  Like bbq chicken fried rice.  Fried rice / carmelized red onion / shredded rotisserie chicken / fresh corn / collard greens cooked with rice vinegar / bbq sauce / eggs.

IMG_0348

Jalopeno popper pasta, loosely inspired by this recipe.  We used whole-wheat shells, turkey bacon, no cream, and less cheese; plus I topped mine with panko.  With roasted zucchini.

IMG_0367

Leftovers with an assortment of baby wines.  I do NOT recommend the rose.

IMG_0389

Homemade buffalo chicken dip / scooped with baby carrots and potato chips / celery sauteed with butter, salt, pepper, and celery seed.

IMG_0412

I’m trying out a recipe that sounds super fun this weekend, so please cross your fingers for me that it turns out!

Last Day

Holy frick.  It’s my last day of work today!!

It’s been a weird last week – I’ve actually been crazy busy because a coworker is out sick so I’ve been covering additional units.  Usually you don’t do much patient care on your final day, but I’m planning on squeezing in a pretty full morning before I start my exit paperwork.  Plus I’ve been wrapping up various projects, including an hour-long presentation on critical care nutrition guidelines that I gave to the residents covering the ICUs.

It’d be nice to have some time to decompress but the last two weeks of June are going to be insane with the move.  And in busy-ness that is fun, my parents are coming into town tomorrow for a final city visit.  And then Adam’s family is joining us to celebrate his graduation next week!

Busy, busy, busy, busy, busy!  <– name that movie

Here were the highlights from my last week of work…

{fun in bottled coffee}  Cold brew from Trader Joe’s.

IMG_9507

Pecan cold brew from Chameleon Coffee.

IMG_9549

{fruit forward snacks}  Fresh watermelon chunks with TJ’s cucumber watermelon mint Greek yogurt.

IMG_9536

The last of the ambrosia my coworker made me.  I for sure ate out every single piece of palm seed.

IMG_9529

{vegetables masquerading as chips/fries}  Roasted green bean “cheese fries” with ketchup and mayo.  I’ll be honest, I wanted Kewpie mayo for years and finally bought a bottle the month before this move and now I’m looking for any excuse, no matter how flimsy, to use it.

IMG_9533

Spinach and parmesan tzatziki dip scooped with sugar snap peas and baby carrots.

IMG_9546

{good foods and goodbyes with coworkers}  An after-work walk to DeKalb Market Hall for Ample Hills.  Baby I was Churned This Way.

IMG_20180612_163604_299

Lunch at Bolivian Llama Party in the Ashland.  I had a fried seitan sandwich and we split insanely good cilantro cheese fries.

IMG_20180614_122853_104

{New York must-eats}  A poppy seed bagel with jalapeno-cheddar cream cheese from La Bagel Delight.  <– eaten on the walk to work, key feature

IMG_9511

Shaved ice from Grace Street.  We swooned over black sesame ice with sweetened condensed milk, honey boba, and mochi.  <– all-time best boba and mochi in the city/world

IMG_9550

Hand-pulled noodles from Xi’an Famous Foods.  Extra spicy for me, with smashed cucumber salad.  The chew factor here is just perfection.

IMG_9556

I ♥ New York.

Tasty Things

Tasty things from this week…

Mango in plain Greek is my latest favorite yogurt combo.  This bowl had nectarine in it, which was fantastic as well.

IMG_9419

Some of my favorite coworkers and I went out for a goodbye lunch at Dekalb Market Hall and I had great tacos.  Mushroom and corn / smoked crab.

IMG_20180606_130208_963

I finally got my hands on this new Reese’s Pieces bar and it was outrageously fantastic.

IMG_9437

IMG_9441

For almost a week I had been having an oddly specific craving for rotisserie chicken and butter lettuce and this strangely topped salad was everything I was hoping for – spinach and butter lettuce mix dressed with evoo, salt, and sumac / warm, shredded, rotisserie chicken / pine nuts / sriracha and kewpie mayo.

IMG_9427

We made chilaquiles nachos.  Tortilla chips, roasted salsa, cheese, shredded chicken and sauteed onion and bell pepper baked with an egg on top.

IMG_9459

What-A-Melon

Four things I ate this week…

Stumptown Founder’s coffee brew with TJ’s chocolate almond-cashew milk.

IMG_9282

Watermelon juice.  Kids, it is June!

IMG_9297

Heirloom naval orange with vanilla bean yogurt and a new flavor of Polar Seltzer I didn’t care for.

IMG_9271

Cheesy chicken and brussel sprouts.  This recipe but with low-fat sour cream, minced garlic, smoked paprika, and cheddar in addition to Parmesan.

IMG_9289

Important FYI – It’s National Doughnut Day today!!!

Claro, Cake, Carrots

I worked Friday, Saturday, Sunday (and I keep working Monday, Tuesday!) but I ate enough sugar the last three days to keep me Energizer Bunny-ing through.

Highlights from a tasty weekend…

Birthday cake iced latte from Milk Bar.

IMG_9031

Trader Joe’s cold brew bottles are the 3rd best packaged cold coffees, beat only by Chameleon and Grady’s.

IMG_8985

Fresh alphonso mango.  In strawberry lingonberry yogurt with bran flakes cereal.

IMG_8980

Desserts from House of Inasal.  Halo halo with the best leche flan of my life.

IMG_9024

And ube tres leches!

IMG_9027

Ice cream from Van Leeuwen.  A vegan flavor that was terrible and a s’mores flavor that was my new favorite.

IMG_9020

Dinner at Sauvage // French food.

IMG_8994

Lemony marinated olives.

IMG_8999

Charred heirloom carrots with labne, pistachio, vadouvan, and pistou.

IMG_9002

We shared all the entrees with mushrooms.  Salmon with sorrel, shiitake mushrooms, lentils, and buttermilk sauce.

IMG_9007

Poulet au Vin Jaune with morels and fava beans.  I don’t eat chicken skin that often but it was by far the best component of this particular dinner!

IMG_9009

Dinner at Claro // Oaxacan food.  I had the housemade tepache (a fermented, sweetened pineapple beverage) with a shot of mezcal – they separated my cocktail for me so I could taste the tepache on its own.

IMG_9057

The menu was meant to be enjoyed family style so we ordered all of the things.  Too many things in fact, I wish they had stopped us one or two dishes earlier.  Asparagus and avocado tostado with queso freso, radish, and spring onion.

IMG_9062

Tacos with chipotle shrimp and quesillo cheese.

IMG_9065

Garnachas (like an open quesadilla) with rabbit and duck confit, pate, fermented vegetables, and cojita cheese.

IMG_9068

Memela (masa cakes) with wild mushrooms, espazote, goat cheese crema, and pasilla.

IMG_9073

Goat’s milk chocolate ice cream with goats milk caramel, peanuts, and toasted marshmallows.

IMG_9076

Happy Monday!
