My new favorite veggies bowl = a base of cauliflower rice with soft scrambled eggs, sauteed baby tomatoes, and avocado (topped with Cholula).
The night before we left for Hawaii we celebrated our anniversary at Bowery Meat Company and the night we returned we feasted on leftover duck lasagna.
So obviously the best thing about being back with my boys was this –
But we also had a ton of fun out of the house too! This weekend Adam and I ran a thousand errands / saw Knives Out / met up with friends for dinner in Astoria / walked around Cold Springs Harbor appreciating their holiday decorations and Christmas carolers!
Edible highlights included…
Shakeratos with fancy coffee. I just now writing this post realized that I make these with coffee + sweetened condensed milk and half and half versus SCM and simple syrup but they still turn out great.
During our Cold Springs Harbor morning we stopped at Sweetie Pies on Main for a quad nonfat iced latte and a rainbow cookie cake. Every single pastry in this shop looks next level.
S’mores cookie from Chip. FYI – these are very graham cracker forward, I much prefer their other flavors.
Sweetened condensed milk and cookies ice cream from Spot (an H-Mart find!).
We stupidly went to Target at dinner time but these impulse buy chocolate covered cashews ended up being amazing.
Between the four of us during dinner at District Saigon we tried and loved a lot of the drink menu but I think the clear winner was this spiked Thai iced tea made with cachaça, absinthe, Angostura bitters, sweetened condensed milk, and egg whites.
How did my short three-day week feel soooo long?! I am off again today because I’m actually heading to Traverse City, Michigan for the weekend to visit one of my best friends from when I was a kid. So excited! I will not be taking pictures though – I got such a cheap ticket that I don’t even get a carry-on, just a purse, so I won’t be spending space on a camera.
This week my snacks heavily featured super random dried / freeze-dried / turned-into-chips things. Highlights include…
Freeze-dried fuji apples from Trader Joe’s + chicken chips.
And I ate the rest of my leftovers from last week (sheet pan hash + tabbouleh + zhoug) and immediately added more zhoug to my grocery list for next week!
{1} I practically swooned over this yogurt bowl; I was more than ready for berry season. Greek yogurt with honey and vanilla bean paste / blueberries / granola.
{3} Mint Lemonade. Wegman’s kombucha line is good, neither too sweet nor too vinegar-forward.
{4} Bowls of super simple chili (just turkey, onion, tomato, and spices) topped with plain Greek yogurt and more hot sauce. Plus roasted broccoli with cheddar on the side.
{5} I 100% made the chili so we could eat it leftover on cheese fries. Waffle fries / chili / sweet red grass-fed cheddar / green onions.
{1} Mint iced coffee! Irving Farms espresso roast / half and half / homemade vanilla mint simple syrup.
{2} Kefir and apple work snacks.
{3} Starbucks’ prepared sandwiches that I’m weirdly obsessed with. Chicken and artichoke flatbread with provolone and sun-dried tomato pesto.
Three things I loved this week:
{1} Homemade turkey cheeseburger fried rice.
Leftover brown rice stir-fried with soy sauce and liquid smoke / sauteed onions / roasted cherry tomatoes / ground turkey sauteed with fish sauce, ketchup, and mayo / eggs / cheddar cheese.
{2} Dinner at Pig and Khao. I went with a girlfriend for her first visit and she loved it!
I ordered not one, but two, new to me dishes that were amazing. Mushroom salad with shrimp and fried garlic and green papaya salad with chicken and crispy taro.
{3} Dinner at Freeks Mill that knocked our socks off.
We started with roasted baby carrots with marcona almonds and herbed goat cheese.
And we ordered all the poultry on the menu for dinner. Chicken for Adam, smoked Poulet Rouge with wild mushrooms and spinach.
Duck for me, dry aged duck with fried cranberry beans, fennel, and rosemary honey. <– this was the singe best thing I've ever eaten!
Three things I’m obsessing about that you don’t know about yet:
{1} Nonfat quad iced lattes from Hungry Ghost. There are three HGs on my walk to work and it is becoming a problem.
{2} Stolen Dance by Milky Chance. This song is basically magic – I listened to it on a run and I swear my legs moved 50% more quickly than usual.
{3} Moving??! I’m not sure how I haven’t blogged about this yet, but yes, we’re moving! Adam is doing his Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at UVA next year. So we’re moving to Charlottesville. In 50 days. !!!
Best chocolate babka in Brooklyn, probably the world, at Oneg Bakery. It was so chewy! Yet crumbly and crisp too. And the chocolate was basically brownie batter! We were absolutely smitten and I ate too much and made myself sick.
Vanilla iced latte at the adorable Hearts Coffee in Bushwick.
Brunch at Meadowsweet. My iced Oslo espresso had sugar, milk, and bourbon in it.
And I had a beyond fantastic bowl of duck pastrami hash with parsley salsa verde and poached eggs.
Snack attack. La Columbe canned coffee and a cheesecake cup.
Fruity yogurt bowl, with citrus yogurt, sumo mandarin, and pomegranate.
Leftover breakfast casserole with the dregs of my veggie drawer.
Snazzy pasta bowls. Whole wheat spaghetti / brown butter and lemon / peas, green onions, and sun-dried tomatoes / crab meat.
