Fire, Flour, & Fork; A Foodie Weekend In Richmond

Adam and I spent a fun weekend in Richmond with some of our favorite people doing our favorite things – eating and walking!  My family invited us for a few days of edible entertainment at Fire, Flour, & Fork.

IMG_2113

We did a street art and food tour.

IMG_2118

The highlight was definitely Greenleaf’s Pool Room, we got a fantastic demonstration and a 99% house-made grilled cheese, tomato soup, deviled egg, and pickle.

IMG_2137

Plus we went to Smoke on the Water, a nighttime event of tents filled with all you could eat local foods and all you could drink cocktails.  On the water, natch.

IMG_2146

IMG_2150

My favorite bites were the apple pie old fashioned with a rice krispie treat garnish and a plate of fish cake with remoulade and slaw.  But the best things we ate all weekend were off of the FFF path on the favorite spots “tour” my cousin took us on.

Kuba Kuba, the best Cuban food we’ve had outside of Florida.  I had cafe con leche and huevos rancheros – two eggs over red beans and kuban bread, topped with monterey jack cheese, enchilada sauce, and lime sour cream.

IMG_2102

Perly’s, the best deli we’ve been to outside of New York.  We had housemade pickles, and I had a Rachel – a turkey reuben with cole slaw instead of sourkraut.

It was a perfect weekend!

All Hallow’s Eats

IMG_2004

IMG_2017

Pumpkin Noosa for breakfast.  I sprinkled some crunchy granola from the cafeteria on top and it was fantastic.

IMG_1995

Maple glazed doughnut with a maple pancake iced latte from Sugar Shack.

IMG_2038

Snack attack.  Is it even Halloween week if you don’t make yourself sick eating too much sugar?  None of fun-sized candy at work was exciting to me and I had to drive myself to Wegman’s to buy my own chocolate.

IMG_2013

Crispy honey garlic tofu bites served on top of roasted broccoli and cauliflower.  The tofu recipe was perfect, I couldn’t believe how crispy it came out.  After I took that photo I smothered my plate in Kewpie and Sriracha!

IMG_1983

This Pumking version was toooo much bourbon for me.

IMG_1974

Sweet potato hash success.  Crispy sweet potato (cooked similarly to this method) / sauteed red bell pepper and spring onion with tumeric and smoked paprika / garlic chicken sausage / topped with a fried egg / and copious amounts of Cholula hot sauce.

IMG_2036

Our Halloween dinner was perfectly on theme – vampire killer pumpkin pasta.  Pumpkin shaped pasta / garlic chicken sausage / sauteed spinach with tons of garlic / tossed in aioli / topped with pan-fried haloumi.

IMG_2076

Plus the best pumpkin beer of the year and a chai pumpkin ale.

Meals In Three States

I have no photos/post for this week(end) because things have been a bit crazy. We had a family emergency and Adam and I actually spent most of the week in Pennsylvania at my in-laws. And today I left to Ohio on a planned trip to visit my grandma. I flew in the cheap seats and have only a purse for my three-day trip, so no space for a camera.

I will be back next Friday! And I’m very excited about our meal plan for the week so hopefully I’ll have some tasty things to share.

Booze In The Blue Ridges

Adam and I had a really fun weekend exploring some of the towns around C-ville.  Primarily we checked out Crozet and Waynesboro, both spots that are known for having fantastic breweries and wineries.

Highlights included – learning that while I dislike IPAs it turns out I adore double IPAs (especially the two at Pro Re Nata) // discovering Wild Wolf‘s super smoky Scottish ale // playing ping pong and skee-ball at Basic City // sipping espresso blended with sweetened condensed milk and mocha at Farm Haus

Maple – Marshmallow – Cinnamon – Pumpkin

The flavors in my title were mostly enjoyed separately this week, but my goodness wouldn’t they be good all together?!

I missed last weekend’s post because I was out of town at a Nutrition Support conference.

Highlights from this week included…

A new all-time favorite coffee combo – Grady’s Cold Brew Concentrate with maple sweetened condensed milk!!  P.S. Grady’s is the best home-brewed coffee that money can buy.  P.P.S. The maple SCM is not to be missed either, if you spot it at your store I recommend buying multiple cans.

IMG_1743

Pumpkin power homemade trail mix.  Pumpkin Puffins / Pumpkin Pie White Chocolate M&M’s / roasted pumpkin seeds / pecans.

IMG_1731

A cookie and coffee date at Sweethaus.

IMG_1777

Pumpkin & Spice Siggi’s yogurt topped with Pumpkin Spice Frosted Flakes.

IMG_1749

New Belgium Voodoo Ranger Atomic Pumpkin beer.  It was cinnamon-spicy and quite enjoyable.

IMG_1786

This month’s Snack Crate.

IMG_1805

Homemade basil turkey burgers with roasted green beans and TJ’s root vegetable medley.  I burnt the burgers just a little but I covered it up with ketchup and mayo.

IMG_1797

Green curry bowls.  Cauliflower rice cooked with coconut milk topped with ground turkey, onion, shredded carrot, green bell pepper, zucchini, and basil sauteed with green curry sauce.

IMG_1754

Pumpkin Everywhere

It was a good week for pumpkin; I snuck it into my coffee, smoothie, pasta, beer, and nachos!  Highlights from the week included…

La Colombe Pumpkin Spice Draft Latte.

IMG_1686

Homemade salted maple cold foam coffee.

IMG_1653

Pumpkin pie smoothie.  Pumpkin puree, plain Greek yogurt, sour cream, maple syrup, clove, and skim milk.  Pumpkin smoothies end up basically being puddings!

IMG_1716

Homemade fall flavors trail mix with Maple Cheerios, raisins, salted peanuts, and yogurt covered peanuts.  Plus a SweeTango apple.

IMG_1642

Adam and I went on a date to try the new Cannoli Bar.  Cannolis aren’t really my thing, but our bicerin – that’s drinking chocolate with espresso and frothed half and half – knocked my socks off.

IMG_20181011_171410_599

Whole Foods hot bar.  Including coconut chicken tenders, furikake fried tofu, horseradish and scallion cauliflower, vegan curry, plus an assortment of other veggies.

IMG_1728

This cheesy veggie bowl was one of my favorite dinners I’ve made all year.  Roasted broccoli / roasted potatoes (cooked similarly to this recipe) / topped with a take on vegetarian queso fundido – sharp cheddar, sour cream, green onion, yellow onion, serrano pepper, and Trader Joe’s vegan chorizo.  I enjoyed this so much I ended up eating my entire bowl followed by most of Adam’s!

IMG_1657

Pumpkin nacho night!  Trader Joe’s pumpkin tortilla chips baked with green onion, yellow, onion, sharp cheddar, and maple chicken sausage.  Then topped with copious amounts of Cholula and sour cream.  Plus roasted broccoli on the side.

IMG_1681

Pumpkin on pumpkin on pumpkin dinner.

IMG_1702

Trader Joe’s pumpkin pasta tossed with a sauce made of pumpkin puree, sour cream, shallots, spices, sage, maple chicken sausage, soyrizo, and parmesan cheese.

IMG_1710

Plus pumpkin beers.  I thought the AleWerks pumpkin ale was too sweet (though Adam was a big fan) but really enjoyed the Punkin Ale from Dogfish Head.

IMG_1705

Pumpkin purchase recommendations?  All of it!  Every product (and recipe) was delicious.  The La Colombe and AleWerks items weren’t quite to my taste, but Adam enjoyed them both so I can’t say I wouldn’t recommend trying them yourself.

1st Week Of Pumpkin Month

It’s Pumpkin Month!  Check out this year’s stash –

IMG_1567

Grapefruit yogurt drink with mango jelly and popping grape boba.

IMG_1612

Vietnamese caramel chicken with jasmine rice and sauteed bok choy and shredded carrot.

IMG_1555

Shrimp fried rice, cooked on a sheet pan.  <– this is such a fantastic idea!  We will definitely use this method again

Spinach and artichoke chicken (similar to this recipe) with roasted cauliflower.

Engaging Eats

It was an exciting weekend, two of our favorite people came to visit us – and got engaged while they were here!  We loved being a part of their special day, and also enjoyed a winery tour, stumbling into the Tom Tom Festival, and staying up far too late.  I mostly took photos of people, but here were five highlights of what I ate…

{1}  Coffee from Sweethaus.  Quad / nonfat / iced / latte / with vanilla and mint.

IMG_1492

{2}  Brunch at Junction.  I had the Huevos Rancheros – crispy corn tortillas topped with refried beans, cotija cheese, fresh avocado, salsa, and 2 fried local eggs.  Plus the Jungle Cat – Vida Mezcal, Campari, pineapple, lime, and Caribbean jerk spiced cane syrup.

IMG_20180930_113258

{3}  Lunch at Smoked in Crozet.  We could not believe how good this place was!  I had smoked turkey, fried chicken, cole slaw, and smoked jalopeno creamed corn.  The cream corn was my favorite side dish of all time!

IMG_1479

{4}  I did not take a picture, but I still have to mention how delicious the fried chicken sandwich at The Fitzroy is.  3/4 of us ordered it for dinner and all of us basically swooned over it.

{5}  It was a coworker’s birthday this weekend so I am bringing in the best ever chocolate chip cookies and I ate copious amounts of dough as I worked.

IMG_1474

I am looking forward to eating a baked cookie with lunch today!
