Sick of Being Sick

I’m sick of being sick!  (I’m also tired of being tired, but that’s another – barking dog heavy – story.)  Yesterday was a particularly bad day so I didn’t post, but I will recap.

I didn’t go to school again yesterday, which means I’ve basically missed a full week of classes!  <– not happy  I did make myself 1.5 servings of Special K Red Berries with almond milk for breakfast.

And when Adam got home he made me his favorite snack  – matzoh with melted cheddar (50% reduced fat, extra sharp).

I had a rough evening and when it came time for a late dinner I begged the husband to get me a milkshake.

The chicken nuggets with hot mustard he randomly came home with sounded good too, thankfully.

Adam has been joking that I must be dying because of how little I’ve been talking (I have a lot to say normally, can you tell?) but he knew I was sick when I scarfed down dinner; I hate McDonalds!

Even though I’m too sick for class, I did have to go to campus today.  I had labwork to turn in and I had to make up the Nutrition test I missed yesterday.  I probably could have done really well on the test (and I was really excited about the material) but since the only time I was able to study was the 2hours beforehand I guess I’m just glad that I think I passed!

The walk home was difficult, but I did stop halfway to purchase a huge soda.

Half diet, half not; the combination seemed to work.

I even managed some people food for a late lunch –

leftover roasted green beans,

and a Cara Cara orange.

Dinner was a Three Cheese Stuffed Rigatoni Lean Cuisine.

This wasn’t the tastiest thing ever, but it felt good to eat some veggies.

I bulked it up with 1.5servings of Popcorners.

I had two online assignments due today, and that with my trip out of the house kind of did me in.

When I went to the clinic they said the virus I probably had lasts 1-2weeks.  I’m a week into being sick, and I’m keeping my fingers (and all my toes) crossed that I’m back to normal by Monday.

What’s the longest you’ve ever been sick?

Meat Lovers for the Veggie Lover

So, I’m still sick.  Still puking, still hacking up lungs, still feeling yucky.  I’d love to tell you I stayed in bed all day, not infecting people, but the fact was I had appointments to keep and places to go.

First was a trip to my orthodontist.  To make a long story short – my retainers are chipping my teeth and I can’t use them anymore.  Now I’m switching to an (expensive) plastic Invisalign-type solution.  The silver lining here is that now I’ve got a month or so retainer-free 🙂  Also, thank goodness Adam was there, I needed to save my whispery voice.

I had a break between appointments, so we headed to Starbucks for a grande awake tea with honey.

I also ordered a breakfast wrap.

Then we drove to school for my 2nd big, important interview.  I can’t really say much about it, but things seemed to go well.

Adam needed to go to the mall afterwards and the opportunity to be upright in a climate-controlled enviroment was too sweet to pass up.  I picked up a Gatorade while we were in Dicks.

And when I got home I had a serving of popcorn.

Popcorners rather,

these chips were a lot of fun.

I managed to complete my labwork this afternoon, but not study for my test, boo!  We did manage some real food for dinner though.

Green bean fries,

and mini pizzas.

We knew I’d be worthless in the kitchen this week so when Adam made my turkey sausage the other day he cooked up the whole pan at once.  Tonight all I had to do was chop up a few servings and throw them on a crust with marinara sauce and 2% mozzarella.  The sausages were great on the pizza, perfect amount of spice and chew, and it was fun to try something “meat-lovers”-ish.

Plus I dipped in ranch, which is always fun.

Adam’s pizza had the addition of Applegate Farms Natural Pepperoni.

He described it as “glorious,” which apparently means it had good zest, good consistency (easy to bite and no chunks), and great flavor.  I didn’t taste any, but he said it cooked well on the pizza.

That’s all folks!

What’s your typical pizza love, veggie-lovers or meat-lovers?

Don’t Go Chasing Waterfalls

Warning – if you make it to the end of this post, you’ll have to pee.

I knew I wasn’t up for the gym this morning but I also knew I wasn’t up for more than one cold walk, so I had Adam drop me off at school on his way anyway.  I made a pitifully small amount of notecards in that time, but some is better than nothing.

It was at school that I had cup of tea #1 (blackberry sage black tea) –

And cup of tea #2 (apple cider black tea) –

When I got home I made a smoothie for lunch, 1 frozen banana + 1 cup frozen spinach + 1 cup oj.

Sadly it was the worst green monster I’ve ever made, but I drank it all anyways to get in the greens and vitamin C.

Popcorn also sounded good,

and you can’t have popcorn without a diet pop.

I also had an onion bun with Smart Balance Light.

Cup of tea #3 (candy cane lane green tea, with honey) –

And finally, cup of tea #4 (eggnog’n with lots of honey) –

Are you feeling sloshy yet?

I should have a fun dinner to post later, if I haven’t floated away yet!

What do you prefer to drink when you’re sick?  Generally I’m more of a ginger ale than a tea person, but today I was feeling the hot liquids (obviously!).

I Need a Hall Pass for Bad Decisions

A bad idea – going to a movie after my 9o’clock class.

A worse idea – getting dinner afterwards and then blogging about it.

A good idea – blogging quickly.

A better idea – letting the pictures do most of the talking.

I ate a few big handfuls of popcorn at the movie.

Hall Pass, by the way.  No Knocked Up but definitely funny enough to be worth a see.

Afterwards we got tacos from ETS.

A veggie and a chicken for me.

I thought veggie meant zucchini, squash, etc, but what I got was lettuce, salsa, tomato.  Such is life!

Good night!

P.S. The best idea would have been going straight to bed, but instead we’re finishing this episode of Castle and I’m munching on a Bananas Foster Bar. What? I’ve got a hall pass!

Let There Be Light

Okay, so I didn’t really do much work today either!  At least in the study sense, we did tackle some to-dos.  Really today was like my Friday, and the next two days are my weekend and my cram-like-crazy study days!

We had to tackle all sorts of not so fun stuff this morning, like filling our FAFSA and dropping stuff off at Goodwill.  My throat was feeling kind of funky so I never really got hungry for breakfast.  I did snag this grape leave from Adam’s leftovers.

And the husband and I split this Ring Pop.

There’s something wrong with my retainers (again, ugh!) so they’re out until Tuesday and it seemed like the perfect time to enjoy this leftover Valentine’s sweet.

Our next set of errands took us up to the Barnes and Nobel on Niagara Blvd, were we just happened to also pull over here –

There’s kind of a deficit of good Thai in Buffalo, so when we spotted Jasmine Thai we just couldn’t resist!

After a few quick modifications, Adam and I ordered our two favorite dishes to split.  Cashew Tofu,

and Pad See Eiw (with steamed tofu and without the egg).

Yuuuuuum.

True story?  I groaned every – single – time I took a bite of the broad rice noodles.  They are just so fricking delicious!  Chewy foods are my favorite and these are the ultimate doughy chew.

My only complaint about Jasmine Thai is that both of our meals were way too light on veggies.  Thankfully I took care of that by eating leftover sesame green beans in the car like a weirdo.

My throat still felt funny all afternoon so we postponed our dinner plans and I made myself a bowl of something creamy, cool, and sweet –

Banana Soft Serve.  Into the food processor went 1.5 frozen bananas, 2 Tbsp shredded coconut, 2 Tbsp honey roasted peanuts, and 1 Tbsp real maple syrup.

This dish is reason alone to own a food processor.  Buy one, try it, and then go tell Gena she’s a genius.

The rest of dinner is going to be a bag of this goodness –

Wondering about that strange picture?  Adam built me a light box!!!!

The inside (backdrop) won’t be done until later but I am so appreciative.  Between my lack of skill, my cheap camera, and our house’s awful lighting, there have just been too many factors working against my pictures.  Hopefully soon I can get a couple of nice shots 🙂

Blogging readers – do you have/use a light box?  What kind of camera do you currently use?

Lunch At The ‘Bucks

Please note – I don’t actually call Starbucks that, that would be lame.  It would be a good nickname though; it’s both a shortening of the name and a nod to the fact that their drinks cost so much you’d think they were selling cups of Adamantium.

I did have lunch at the local Starbucks today though.  I went straight there from campus and got some solid studying done.  I started with a grande steamed apple juice (the caramel apple spice minus the caramel),

and a bag of salt and pepper popcorn.

I know that the ‘Bucks has gotten some flack for its iffy nutritionals in the past, but this was both tasty and healthy.

After two hours I was dying to leave but not yet done with my notecards.  My flamingo rubber band friend convinced me to get another drink and finish my work for the class.

Tall, soy, toffee latte.  Good to know – all of the flavored syrups used at Starbucks are vegan.

When I actually completed one class (fyi – that’s one class, 3 hours later I’m HALF done with the notecards I need to make for the week) I headed out to stroll around Elmwood doing Valentine’s shopping.  Another important note – Adam and I actually don’t do gifts for any holiday.  So sometimes I like to celebrate by buying things to make him feel bad.  Did you catch the latest Modern Family episode – “I win Valentine’s!” – yeah, sort of like that.

Now I’m off to the grocery store, a necessary step before dinner can occur.

If you’re in a realationship – did you buy gifts for Valentine’s this year?

Blojo, It’s Not What You’re Thinking

I don’t know what my deal is lately, I have lost all my blojo (that’s blog mojo, fyi).  Sometimes I run out of time to blog, or sometimes I’m just too lazy, but the other day I actually forgot to blog before bed.  That’s crazy!  As I spend my last days before the semester begins relishing my time as a slug, I guess my eats have been pretty forgettable though.  Sort of like the pizza we ordered for dinner tonight 😉

While we wait for that delivery, I might as well fill you in on my day.  Like breakfast.

A slice of cinnamon sugar toast with Smart Balance Light, on a rye/pumpernickel swirl.

Plus a tasty yogurt bowl; 0% Plain Oikos, honey, pb, and a chopped banana.

This was the high point of my day nutritionally, – which shouldn’t be hard because Greek yogurt is pretty nutritionally impressive – mostly because lunch came in the form of corn, popped and kettled.

And several handfuls of cheezits.

Hello, carbs.

It’s time for another trip to the store but with 10* weather I’m having a hard time finding the motivation (hence the pizza dinner delivery).  However, I realize that the lack of fruits and veggies is effecting the rest of my motivation; the motivation that gets me off the couch or prompts me to write a decent blog post.  Dare I say school on Monday might be the best thing to happen to me all month?

How do you keep up your blojo?

Just the Facts

This needs to be a quick post, just the facts.  Adam and I got hooked (way hooked!) on Firefly today and the sooner I post the sooner I watch  🙂

This morning = Sabrina the Teenage Witch and a huge bowl of popcorn.

Bringing ‘corn back into this house was a bad idea, and that’s a fact.

Plus real lunch.

Sandwich Thin with cheese spread and turkey,

Bartlett pear.

Dinner a la mother-in-law; turkey quesadilla casserole.

End.
