Tuesday Afternoon – Thursday Afternoon

My family’s Christmas Eve party is tonight and we’ve got lots of setting up to do so this will have to be kept quick.

Tuesday Afternoon….

After my last post Adam and I set out for some exercise.  We ran on the waterfront downtown together.  We did walk/run intervals for 40minutes.  I’m not sure exactly how far we ran but I burnt 450calories.

Adam and my parents made chili for dinner (which I’m really not a fan off, unless it’s from ED&BV) so I pieced a few things together.  Like a smoothie –

1/2 cup low fat cottage cheese, 1/2 cup pineapple, 1 small banana, splash milk, squeeze honey.  Topped with nutmeg.

My mom also reheated me a slice of pizza from the freezer, Adam ate all of my half from the other day so it was just plain cheese.

We went out for drinks with some friends but I was the driver so I stuck to diet coke.  We stayed out past 1 though, so we were a little sleepy the next day! 😉

Wednesday…

Our plan was to go study at our favorite coffee shop, but due to our late start and some unexpected traffic it just didn’t work out.  I was planning on blogging too, but I forgot my camera cord, doh!  We did get tasty sandwiches to eat in the car while we ran errands with my mom though!

I got a whole wheat wrap with sweet potato, goat cheese, spinach, and spicy hummus, YUM.

I was feeling really sick later in the afternoon (NOT because of the sandwich, spicy food does NOT seem to affect my stomach) so Adam made me this yummy tasting plate.

Thankfully I rallied in time for dinner.  Adam and I cooked for my parents and grandparents, who are down visiting as well.

Adam made a Real Simple recipe for roasted red pepper turkey meatloaf,

and I roasted up some okra and green beans.

My mom provided dessert –

A teensy sliver of rum cake a parent brought her,

and a peppermint chocolate cookie.

I ate a snowball a little later too.

And a cup of Eggnog’n Tea.

And then we went out drinking way too late for the second night!  Good times were had by all, but I did stick to diet coke again.

Thursday Morning….

I think the no-booze rule saved me last night because I was able to get up this morning and go for a run!  I did ~ 45minutes/490 calories, and ~3miles.  I did my pt when I got home before I dove into this –

holy food am I glad I can find the pineapple Chiobani down here!

Although I was probably most excited about this Carebear spoon I dug up!

Now as soon as we leave the library we are heading home to prep for the party.  There won’t really be dinner or lunch today, more like lots of snacking on really tasty things.  🙂

I probably won’t be posting again until after this weekend, so to all my readers who celebrate – Merry Christmas!

Back from the Black Hole

And the fall semester has come to a close!!!  I’m actually not going to talk about today yet – not only because I’m heading off on a fun adventure, but also because I haven’t actually eaten anything yet today!  But instead I’ll do a quickie recap of yesterday.

Did I mention yesterday?  More like study black hole.  Caroline and I just might have studied from 10am – 2am.  Yikes!  Most of that took place at the Spot, so my eats were all coffee shopped.

Breakfast –

Fruit bowl,

housemade granola,

tiny bit of skim milk,

diet coke # 1 of 3.

Lunch –

Cajun Turkey Wrap (ww wrap, lettuce, turkey, cajun sauce, pepperjack cheese),

and a side salad.

Dinner?

Housemade nonfat chai latte.  End scene.

I’ll be back later today with a recap of today, and an announcement of who won my Amy’s giveaway.

Studies and Sweets

Another day at study central has come to a close!  Tomorrow is a horrifying all day affair, and then my final is at 8am this Saturday.  And then I go home!  To the beach!

My high volume low calorie lunch did not do the trick for me at all.  Usually I am more of a volume eater (popcorn?) but I was starving again .2seconds after eating.  I distracted myself for a minute with my fancy Christmas socks,

and then was hungry again.  I snagged a piece of peppermint bark on my way out the door.

We had some errands to run – like picking up an exciting package at UPS – before we made our way to Coffee Culture around 2.  Which is where we stayed until 8.  Actually, I got there at 2, Adam spent an hour being a creeper.  Keanu Reeves is shooting a movie here in Buffalo and Adam wanted to get an eye-full of his man-crush.  Lucky for him my friend Caroline was involved in the shooting and she snuck him in for a peak.  Oh man was he ever excited!

When I went to order my coffee (with skim milk) the man told me a small with a homemade cookie would cost me $2, who could resist that?

This peanut butter cookie might be the best cookie I’ve ever eaten.  It was crumbly and chewy at the same time and just perfect.

A few hours later it was time for dinner.

I got the “All American” – whole wheat panninni, roasted turkey, cream cheese, american cheese, ranch dressing, cranberries.  I know it sounds goopy and over the top but the dressings were all really light and it ended up being delicious.

I feel like I “should” be full, but I’m still not, and it’s very likely I’ll have a snack before bed.  Otherwise, I will see you all tomorrow.  Caroline and I are planning on spending all day studying at the Spot again, so I’m not sure when I’ll post, but expect it to be boring! 🙂

Don’t forget, my Amy’s giveaway ends tomorrow at noon!

Last Lab

It’s official – I’m finished with Chem 101 Lab!  Yesterday, when I wore my pajamas to class, I got called up to the front for a demonstration, so I made sure to look cute today, albeit a bit crazy eyed.

I didn’t get many of my errands done, but we did at least make it to the post office in time to pick up a birthday gift from Adam’s brother.

He sent a variety of foodstuffs, all of which inspired my graze like a hippo gazelle dinner.  I like to work in reverse, so I started with dessert.  A macadamia cluster,

followed by two small petti  fores.

I have to say, I’m a bit of a candy snob, I could tell the chocolate was cheap and it wasn’t really worth it.

Dinner was more of a success.  I made a tasting plate!

Turkey pepperoni,

cheese log,

Sabra Jalopeno Hummus,

saltines,

and chopped pregnant red pepper, see the little green pepper baby we found inside!?

Everything was delicious.

I loved the combination of flavors, smokey, savory, sweet and spicy all together.  My fullness took a while to kick in though, I definitely snacked on 5-8 more unphotographed saltines post-dinner.

Adam and I watched all the newest Scrubs episodes while we ate, pretty good so far!  We were o.b.s.e.s.s.e.d with the old show – I talked about it in my wedding vows!!!! – and agree that while this isn’t quite as good the bar is set pretty high.

Post dinner I cleaned the entire freaking house!  Everything looks much neater and I feel a gazillion times better.  I do not function well in mess.  Now I’ve got to hit the sack, it’s Adam’s 24 birthday tomorrow!

Where do you set the bar when it comes to chocolate?  90% coco from the French only or whatever you can find?  I can occasionally enjoy a bite of the husband’s Snickers, etc. but in generally I’m pretty snobby.  My favorite as of late is the Lindt Sea Salt bar, yum!

Kitchen Warfare

I didn’t get enough any studying done before class, but not because I was making an amazing dinner.

I started  making an amazing dinner.  I even cut my own *onions!  *The husband has no sense of smell so he doesn’t cry when he cuts onions, therefore it is always his job.  Sadly, once my beautifully cut onions were sauteing the red pepper flakes killed their container to bring some guerilla warfare to onionville.

It rained fire and brimstone on the tear-makers and my kitchen filled up with smoke that could rival any tear gas.  My lungs felt like they were on fire and dinner was unsalvagable.

Once I was able to go in the kitchen again I knew it was time for a drink.  Bring on the stout! …….Kerrygold Dubliner Cheese with Irish Stout that is.

I tried some Kerrygold products at Foodbuzz and I am so glad to have the opportunity to try more, yum.

One ounce of the cheese,

with turkey pepperoni,

and a granny smith apple

made a tasty tasting plate.

Now I can head to class.  I am going to the gym after Chemistry so I’m sure there will be more food pics to post by the end of the day.  I have pt at 7:30am tomorrow (which means I have to wake up before 6:30) so feel free to post and tell me to get my butt to bed on time!

When was the last time you went through war in your kitchen?

Feeling Thankful

Again, I’ll try to keep this quick, but it’s been a great Turkey Day.  I’m thankful for family, good food, and my wonderful husband.

We slept in until 10:30 this morning (I’m feeling sick again, boo!) and then woke up to the world’s tastiest breakfast.

My grandma is so cool, she had Greek Gods’ Honey Greek Yogurt waiting in the fridge for me!  I had a small bowl of fruit,

and honey Greek yogurt with berries and a sliver of homemade coffee cake.

Mmmmmmn!  I was in love with this breakfast!  If it wasn’t Thanksgiving I would have gone back for another bowl!  I think I’ve got my aunt hooked on Greek yogurt now too 🙂

We went to a family friend’s house for Thanksgiving at 1, so we headed out around noon to socialize.  Look how cute my grandparents are!

I’ve gone to Thanksgiving with this family ever year I’ve been with my grandparents and it’s always so much fun.  They have the best decorations, I wish I could have gotten more pictures.

I made a small appetizer plate with pretzels, honey raspberry dip, and crackers with dirty martini dip.

And I had a light beer to drink.

As I mentioned before, I am actually not much of a Turkey Day food fan!  I didn’t even eat any turkey meat!  I tried to just take a small bit of everything.

Clockwise from the top – stuffing and mashed potatoes with gravy, corn casserole, sweet potato casserole, roll, jello mold salad, cranberries.  I finished everything on my plate (except for the roll which I gave away).  I didn’t actually eat very much, but I didn’t do seconds because I knew dessert was coming.

I actually gave away that mini cake in favor of a second cookie!

It was great getting to catch up with people and Adam was definitely stuffed!  He took a fat nap before we even headed home, and hit the couch asap.  My grandmother and I wanted to take a nice walk but unfortunately it was raining.  The other disappointment was that there was nowhere for me to volunteer.  I really wanted to put in some time at a food bank or soup kitchen today but everywhere my grandma called had too many volunteers.

We ate dinner around 7, and I was actually hungry again.

Leftover sweet potato casserole,

and a yumtastic sandwich – turkey, cranberries, cream cheese.

Plus apple and celery salad on the side.

I was still a bit hungry so I went back for more salad.

We played cards after dinner.

I had a coffee with 2% and an amaretto stick,

a mini 7-up,

and a small handful of caramel corn.

We kept my grandparents up past midnight playing cards, I’d say it’s time for bed!

How was your turkey day?

We Are Here!

I’m finally in California!  I’ve been waiting for this since I was a kid!  I need to finish getting ready so I’ll keep it quick, but I wanted to check in.

My flights went well, things were nice and uneventful.  Because of the challenge (I’m not gonna lie, I love airport food, it is totally worth the money to me usually) I tried to pack all of my own snacks for this travel day.  I’m not quite sure how things will work on my return flights, but I do have some bars stashed in my suitcase.

I ate breakfast before I got on my first flight, a crumpet(!) topped with Crofter’s Superfruit Spread and an egg.

DSC00634

DSC00638

I cooked the egg in the microwave – small bowl, crack, stir, salt & pepper, 45second nuke – and it worked out very well.  I was worried about how well this would keep as ‘leftovers’ but it was pretty tasty.  I’ll be doing the micro method more often.

I ate a sandwich on my second flight.  For my sandwich I packed 3slices of turkey on 2slices of bread, with a packet of horsey sauce from Arby’s to squeeze on in flight.

DSC00635

My long flight (5+hours) went well.  I watched “Why I Wore Lipstick to My Masectemy” on my laptop and bought a “Real Simple” and “Bon Appetit” that kept me very occupied.

Camile and I met up in the airport and headed to our hotel via the BART.  We are sharing a room and the receptionist was totally sweet and upgraded us to a king bed.

DSC00639

I think the room is gorgeous, it is tiny, but well decorated.  Plus the front desk has awesome candy.

DSC00640

As soon as our bags were dropped off we headed out to explore the area around our hotel – Market Street.  I munched on an apple from home to hold me over.

DSC00641

Now we are finishing getting ready for the first Foodbuzz event, a cocktail party!  I am so excited to meet all the bloggers!  I’ll be back with a recap this evening.

What eats do you pack for travel?

Happy 80th Nana!

Hello, hello, hello!  Sorry to skip out for the weekend but I had a fabulous time.  I flew to Ohio (with a bunch of other family members) to celebrate my grandmother’s 80th birthday.  We did party/family time all weekend, which meant TONS of cake!  I missed the husband a lot but I had a great time, my family is so funny!  This post won’t be as detailed, due to length, and if you get too bored skip to the bottom to find the winners of the Zevia contest.

Friday we had to get up nice and early to make it to the airport for my 6:35am flight.  I was hungry when I got to the airport but it seemed early and I knew I would sleep my first flight so I decided to wait.

On my layover I got egg and cheese on a cheddar jalopeno bagel.

DSC00543

It was very tasty but I dropped half on the floor so I only ate half of it.

I was so excited when I finally got in to the Dayton airport!

DSC00545

My mom and grandma picked me up and we drove over to Tipp City to do some shopping (also the location of my grandmother’s surprise party!).  We saw all sorts of fun things.

Nana (grandma)  was impossible to get to her surprise party, she kept insisting the chosen restaurant was too nice, too slow, etc.  I finally had to pretend I was going to pee my pants if we didn’t at least go in to the restroom!  When she saw all of her friends she was so surprised she cried!

DSC00557

My mom and my aunt (who flew up with my mom a few days earlier than me) did such a good job planning and decorating!

DSC00558

We did a party lunch at Coldwater Cafe and it was very nice.  I got a bloody mary to drink.

DSC00559

And for lunch I split – more halfs! – a turkey pannini (with artichoke spread and cheese) with my mom.

DSC00560

I ignored the chips but the sandwich was great.

My grandmother cried when she opened her presents and again when they brought in the cake!

DSC00561

DSC00564

I am not really a chocolate cake fan so I took a small bite and then packed up the rest to bring home to Paps (grandpa).  I also packed up all the bread from the table baskets.  My family teased me but they are either going to use it again, ewww, or throw it out, wasteful.

We got to go home long enough to pick up my grandpa and then we – me, my mom, my aunt, my grandparents, and the dog – squeezed into the car for a long drive to Toledo where my uncle lives.  I seriously can not handle how funny my family is, we had such a good time!!

We were running late when we got there so we had a quick dinner from Wendy’s.  I got a baked potato with broccoli and cheese.

DSC00565

I also ate one of my pumpkin cheesecake cupcake/muffins, so good!

DSC00566

My uncle is a high school football coach so we went to watch his team.  It was their last game of the season, against their biggest rival, and they whooped them, so it was a lot of fun.  My uncle had the marching band play happy birthday to Nana and she cried again!

After the game we went to a ‘end of season’ party my uncle was throwing for the other coaches.  I had a small vodka and coke,

DSC00568

and a small slice of pizza.

DSC00567

And then there was more cake and more tears!

DSC00569

Quite a night was had by all 🙂

For Saturday breakfast I had an English muffin with homemade strawberry jam and scrambled eggs.

DSC00571

We spent the morning having family time before we headed to another birthday party, this one for my cousin’s baby!  Lunch was buffet style at the party.

DSC00572

Cheesy potatoes,

DSC00575

fruit,

DSC00574

and veggies.

DSC00573

And of course more cake – I just ate the icing off this piece.

DSC00583

Over the course of the party I sipped a beer

DSC00577

and had a good time hanging with my mommy and grandma.

DSC00580

My mom, aunt, and I (all Virgin Islanders) walked to and from the party because it was so exciting to be cold!  It was sad saying goodbye to my cousins but then the six of us packed back into the car and headed back to my grandparents’ house.  More uproarious fun was had, including the hilarious/horrifying realization that my grandmother – who was driving – talks with her hands a lot!

It was Halloween, so I broke out some fancy chocolate I bought for the occasion.

DSC00584

We all had a small piece.

When we got home we had to rush to get dressed before meeting my grandparents’ best friends for dinner.  It was  a great last meal.  I had a bloody mary again, to which I added a ton of Siracha and sizzled my mouth off!

DSC00585

My grandmother shared her side salad with me,

DSC00586

and she and Rose gave me their martini olives.

DSC00588

DSC00587

They are both amazing and both happen to read the blog, hi guys!

I also had a small piece of bread.

DSC00589

I was torn on ordering but when the waitress said unlimited toppings on the flat bread pizza I was sold!  I asked for roasted red pepper, green peppers, red onions, caramelized onions, tomato, spinach, and mushrooms.

DSC00590

DSC00591

Mmmn.  I ate 3/5 pieces.

It was another late night and I think we left my grandparents thoroughly exhausted!

This morning my mom and I both had 6:50 flights so it was another early trip to the airport.  Goodbyes were easy; I see my grandparents for Turkey Day and my mommy and aunt for Christmas!

For reasons explained in the next post, I packed my own breakfast.  A banana from my grandmother’s house,

DSC00592

and a seasonal Pumpkin Spice Cliff Bar from home.

DSC00593

My flights were all blissfully uneventful.  I was very excited to see the husband at the airport.  Apparently he went to a Halloween party last night so I’ll have to track down some pictures of his costume.  He made himself spaghetti this weekend so I had a big bowl of that (doctored with mozarella and red pepper flakes) while I wrote this monster post.

DSC00594

My fingers are exhausted, it is definitely time to say Goodbye!  I will “see” you all this evening, hope everyone else had a good weekend!

Zevia Winners

I used a random integer generator to choose the winners.

Runners Up who receive a mixed six pack
