Hello, Goodbye

Hi folks!

I just wanted to let you know that I will not be posting this week.  My grandparents don’t have great internet service and it’s a short trip so I will just do a recap when I get back on Sunday.  I hope everyone else has a fabulous weekend!

Don’t forget, my Zevia giveaway closes at noon this Saturday!

Oh Man

Oh Man.  Today has been quite the day (and it’s not even over!).  I am flying to Ohio early tomorrow morning to celebrate my grandmother’s 80th birthday.  I knew I had a ton to do, so the plan was to get up super early, but when your husband is in medical school and studying for a big test until 2am sometimes things don’t pan out.

I ended up getting out of bed at 9:30, whoops!  I skipped another gym session but I am not going to beat myself up about it.  I was super sluggish and out if it so it took me a while to get going but I managed to pull it together and make breakfast.

DSC00527

Half a piece of Naan with pb and Crofter’s Superfruit Spread.

Then I threw on a new sweater and headed to Wegmans.

DSC00528

The plan was just to buy my baking stuff but I ended up getting items for next week too.  Like this –

DSC00529

Eek!  I’ve been so jealous when other bloggers have eaten this, thank goodness it’s finally made it to Buffalo.  Now if only we had pumpkin Stoneyfield!

After I put the groceries away it was time to head back out to, this time to the doctor’s office.  My foot is 90% better but I have one stubborn wort left.  I went straight to school from there and studied Chemistry until class.  I was dying of hunger by the time I got there.

I was majorly craving fries, so I got some!

DSC00531

Along with a spicy chicken sandwich that was sadly unspicy.

DSC00530

During my meal the regional manager came up to hit on me talk to me and I ended up getting some free coupons.  I don’t eat at Burger King very often but free food is always exciting!

Lab went very well.  I got a quiz back that was a 100% and the experiment went very quickly.  I ended up staying until 9 anyway to work on the post-lab; I am 99.9% finished for next week!

When I got home at 9:45 I was kind of starting to lose it (the doctor froze my remaining wort today and at that point the pain was about an 8).  Poor, poor Adam.  I tend to get a little punch-drunk when I’m tired and the giggles were out in full swing!  He was totally sweet though and helped me with my baking.

DSC00540

I am bringing Cheesecake-Filled Pumpkin Cupcakes (from October Everyday with Rachael Ray) with me to Ohio.  I followed the recipe (except I used evoo instead of vegetable oil, and cut the amount to 1/4C) but decided to skip the frosting.  They have a fricking cream cheese layer, it seemed unnecessary.

DSC00541

While we baked we finally opened the beer I’ve been saving all month.

DSC00536

DSC00537

DSC00538

Southern Tier is a favorite, and Pumpking is handsdown the best pumpkin beer!  I had about 1/3.

DSC00539

We had to walk hobble to the bank and now we finally are going to watch this week’s episode of House “It’s The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brow.”  Dinner kind of never happened.  Except sort of, I guess, when I ate this “cupcake” of baked extra cream cheese filling.

DSC00542

YUM!  I actually still have packing to do (at 1am!) so I should hop to it!  Sweet dreams everyone!

Seriously, Make It

What a day, what a day!  Early in the week headaches have officially been canceled out, today bumped my weekly productivity up to 100%!  Things actually started off a little rocky; we were awake so late we slept through the alarms!  I panicked for a moment but I realized that my legs were hurting pretty badly so it wasn’t the world to cancel my gym session anyway.

I finished my post-lab work at home and then headed to The Spot to study.  I was dreaming of a Mike’s Sandwich but I didn’t actually get there until after 11 and they were no longer serving breakfast.  Buffalo parking is a bummer.  The barista totally empathized with my craving though and hooked me up with an everything bagel with sliced turkey and colby cheese (+ diet coke).

DSC00518

Craving decimated!

DSC00517

A few hours later I also got a tall Americano with skim milk.

DSC00519

My focus today was out of control, I only got distracted twice!  Once when I was reading about the visible light spectrum and started thinking about how my rings act like a prism in the sun…

DSC00520

and again when I got this…

DSC00521

I drove to school around 3:30 and continued the study frenzy before my 6:30 class.  In total today I completed reading an entire chapter (with 11pages of notes!!), pre and post work for this week’s labs, and a class session.  Plus I put away 4 loads of laundry when I got home.  And I made a grocery list for tomorrow.  I’m going to do a little baking before my trip 🙂  Tomorrow is still going to be a bit crazy but I made a definite dent.

For dinner I finally got the try my Moussaka.

DSC00523

Yums!  You broiled it for a bit so the cheese got all nice and brown and I loved the combo of veggies.

DSC00522

I had an Orange Zevia to drink.

DSC00524

Dessert was fall personified – chopped up Cortland apple, sprinkled with cinnamon and 2T cinnamon caramel apple dip, heated in the microwave, topped with a crumbled Maple Pecan Boomi Bar.

DSC00525

Seriously?  Seriously?  This might be the best thing I’ve ever eaten.  The caramel thinned out when it melted so it coated every single piece of apple; the apples got nice and soft; and maple pecan boomi bars are freaking better than cookies.  Make this.  You will not be sorry.

DSC00526

Thursday is looking to be pretty rushed, so it will probably be another full day recap post.  See you Thursday night after lab!

Don’t forget about my Zevia giveaway.

Also; watch this.  Seriously, it’s the funniest thing ever.

Dreams of Root Vegetables

Whew, Tuesday is almost over!  My meeting went well, I still have no idea which career path I’ll choose but it is exciting to learn about the options.  After my meeting I swung by the house to pick up the husband, who graciously offered to go along on my printing/mailing resume errands.

True Story – while we were driving he got annoyed that I don’t know what I want to do and said – “You’ll never know what you want to do.  Next thing I’ll know you’ll want to be a turnip!  Do you need to go back to school to be a turnip!?!”  And now he has called me Turnip for the rest of the day.  Holy cow I love my funny husband!

On our way home – resumes successfully mailed, hopefully I will be substituting at some point – we stopped in The Spot for coffee.

DSC00508

I got a small  Chaider; steamed apple cider and chai tea.  Mmn, fall!  I actually think I’m going to head back to the Spot to work tomorrow, I haven’t been getting much done at home 😦

I was feeling sick with hunger when we got home so I got a snack while I worked on my lab (which I can not do without help, boo!).

DSC00510

A bumped log,

DSC00511

with Granny Smith slices with cinnamon caramel apple dip.

DSC00512

I had a coupon for the dip and you know I’m a sucker for all foods fall.

DSC00509

After struggling with Chemistry for forever I moved on to making dinner.  On the meal plan was a recipe from the November “Everyday with Rachael Ray” ‘lightened up’ moussaka.

DSC00513

DSC00514

I can’t share the recipe but if you bought the magazine and are planning to try it here are the changes I made:

  • used 99% lean ground turkey instead of beef
  • skipped the food processor and used low fat whipped cottage cheese
  • used half graffiti eggplants
  • add 1/2 pint mushrooms

DSC00516

We actually got busy and didn’t even eat dinner so I’ll have to review the recipe tomorrow!  I have a busy day planned tomorrow – no room for headaches! – so don’t be surprised if I don’t post until dinner.  Night!

Shorty Fire Burning on the Dance Floor

What is with my head!?!  I had another (much smaller) headache and I actually took a nap when I was supposed to be working!  Oh well, I might as well move on rather than dwell.

Lunch was good.

DSC00504

I had a carton of Dr. McDougall’s Lentil Soup.

DSC00503

DSC00506

Half a slice of Naan from Wegmans.

DSC00505

And a Black Cherry Zevia to drink.

DSC00507

While I ate I watched “Trauma” on Hulu.  The episode got me thinking about this article I read in Reader’s Digest – 911 Calls Gone Tragically WrongHave you read this?  It’s a little scary.  I want it in my head that 911 workers are well paid and capable.

I have a meeting at 2 with one of the departments I’m applying to, wish me luck!  Afterwards I am getting some resumes printed and mailed, and then hopefully getting some fricking work done!!

Question of the day (Before my mom asks) – Who knows how this title fits with this post?

Moving Forward Monday

I know it’s not really Monday, but a killer migraine ate my whole yesterday so let’s pretend 🙂  I set the alarm for 5am this morning to get myself back on track.  If nothing else, I have accomplished a gym session today.  I did a painful but easy run on the treadmill – 3.7miles, 40minutes.  Followed by stretching and strength training – 100 abs reps, 50 arms reps.  Once I walked home my heart rate monitor read 1hour, 503 calories.

Post gym, I took a quick shower and actually cleaned the house before Adam even awake!  We have a lot more to do, frankly we let this place become a wreck!  Among the headache fun yesterday, was when I attempted to cook some wontons and basically exploded the microwave.  The catastrophe was actually a good thing though – a) we now know that our apartment has no working smoke alarms, and b) in dealing with the smell the apartment now smells like yummy pumpkins.

DSC00501

I’m icing my legs as I write this post so breakfast was quick and easy –

DSC00502

Almond Protein Plus Boomi Bar.  This is my favorite flavor.

I was flipping through my day planner this morning and I kind of can’t belive how much excitement is coming up!  Here is a short schedule of the rest of 2009 –

  • December 21 – fly to St. Thomas for Christmas break
  • December 24 – my family’s annual Christmas Eve party

What was your last kitchen catastrophe?

Where the Wild Things Are

Productive?  No.  Fun?  Hells yes!  I am so glad the husband talked me into ignoring my work and spending a fun date day with him!  Equally exciting?  Some of my new shirts have built in hoods!

DSC00482

His favorite book growing up was Where the Wild Things Are so we went to go see the movie today.  He bribed he there with promises of splitting a thing of pretzel bites.

DSC00483

Yums.  The movie was pretty good.  They didn’t follow the book very well but it was pretty visually stunning.  We both appreciated that they didn’t include a bunch of adult humor; in fact, there wasn’t very much dialogue at all.

We walked to the bank once we got home (I got a very exciting last check from my old school) and it turned into a nature walk!

We followed Mother Nature’s lead once we got home and did some decorating of our own.

DSC00491

Now we are going to watch an old episode of Bones and curl up on the couch with our leftovers from The Cheesecake Factory.

DSC00492

I opened a Zevia to drink with my meal.

DSC00493

Ginger ale might be my new favorite.

All I really plan on doing today now is cooking dinner!  So I’ll be back with that.

What was your favorite childhood book?  I have bazillions (my mom was a librarian).  If I had to choice I’d say Bread and Jam for Francis or The Little Mouse, The Ripe Red Strawberry, and the Big Hungry Bear.  Now my husband and I call each other Mouse and Bear so the book ended up being very telling!

Drive By Post

I finally got a little more sleep last night but I was having the craziest dreams!  The one I was having when Adam woke me up –

I was teaching people about catching electric eels.  I was explaining that sometimes eels have cuttlefish in their bellies, and you could eat them too.  That meant you got two types of meat, neither of which were pork or chicken.  Eel and cuttlefish!

I was super excited about that last part.  Yetch!

This post is actually just a stop-in update post, I haven’t actually eaten anything yet (yes, I know it’s after 11).  I woke up before 10, but I was on the phone with one of my friends for a while and I did some major cuddlefesting with Adam.  I have a ton a ton a ton of schoolwork to do and lots of cooking planned for tonight so I am heading to The Spot for some focused study time.   Or……Adam bribed me with pretzel bites and now I’m going to the movies.  That could happen too.
