Pizza Pity Party

Rain, rain, go away, come again another day next year.

DSC00211

It is a dark, dank, and dreary day around here!  90% of my to-do’s had to be scrapped because Adam needed the car because of the rain.  And there’s the small matter of the giant leak!!!  Not only do I have to skip another gym session, but my job search (which is going poorly) is further impeded.  I’m going to focus on schoolwork and see if I can find some cocoa!

For breakfast I went college-style – leftover pizza.

DSC00210

I guess it’s more grown-up style when you use homemade extra veggie pizza and reheat it in the oven. 🙂  Wish me luck with my work!

What do you like to do on rainy days?  I am all about Carebears movies.

Rain Check

The intense torrential downpour all day mucked up my plans, but I did find some fun substitutes!  I had so many crazy dreams last night that I ended up pressing snooze on the alarm this morning until after 9.  I ate a Cashew Almond Boomi Bar on the way to volunteering today.

DSC00203

I liked the flavorbut I was running late so I only ate 3/4 of it.

For lunch at the hospital I used my voucher to get a sandwich from the cafeteria.

DSC00204

Chicken salad in a jalopeno wrap with spring mix lettuce, bell peppers, banana peppers, sundried tomato and pesto sauce.  I ate 85% or so.

Adam had the day off from school (Yom Kippur) so he picked me up at the hospital to save me from the rain.  I had planned on going to the gym but once I saw the sky it didn’t take much convincing to get me to see a movie with him!  We went to a 3o’clock showing of “Surrogates,” which we both enjoyed.  We hit up Dairy Queen at the mall.

DSC00205

I ordered a small oreo cookie dough blizzard.

I was very glad that Adam drove me to class because the rain was so bad you could barely see.  We ended up taking the (slow) main road home instead of the highway because it was so bad.

When we got home we made the perfect rainy day dinner – pizza!  I would say it was super veggie, but by the time the husband got done with it it was super cheesey!

DSC00207

On a store bought crust we piled

  • 12oz pizza sauce
  • 2C reduced fat mozzarella cheese
  • 1 chopped red bell pepper
  • 1 chopped yellow bell pepper
  • 3/4pint mushrooms
  • 1/2 sliced yellow onion

We precooked the veggies for 15minutes at 475* before we put them on the pizza.  Look at how sweet our pizza sauce was –

DSC00206

It was very tasty, but we definitely bought it because I fell in love with the can!

After it came out of the oven I ate 1/4 of the finished product.

DSC00208

Yums.  We watched the new episode of “Bones” while we ate and towards the end I had a half serving of Lindt Sea Salt Dark Chocolate.

DSC00209

Yums x2.

I’m disappointed that the gym didn’t happen because I have to go back to the doctor on Thursday, but such is life.  I always appreciate hang out time with the husband.  Have a great night everybody!

What do you like to put on pizza?  My favorite toppings are green olives and broccoli.  I also really like cheeseless pesto pizza.

Travel, Treats, Time

Today was frustrating but fruitful (oh man, continuing with that alliteration!).  Everything took longer than planned and I have been crazy hungry all day but we did have fun and most of my to-dos are done.  I feel bad for the string of recap posts and/or quickie posts, but it’s almost midnight so I gotta do it.

I woke up early this morning to pack up so I could join my sister-in-law for church.  I ate half of this Lara Apple Pie Bar on the drive there.

DSC00190

After some reflection, we met the boys at Shoney’s for breakfast.  This spot would not have been my pick, but my eating style is pretty different from my husband and his family.  We all did the breakfast buffet.

DSC00191

I ate a plate of fruit,

DSC00192

and potatoes, scrambled eggs, and a biscuit.

DSC00193

I was annoyed by the lack of healthy choices, but the food actually did taste pretty good.  I haven’t had a biscuit (w/honey!) in years so that was fun.

After breakfast we set out – in the pouring rain – for home.  We stopped on the way for gas and I spotted this –

DSC00194

I’m sorry, I realize I’m 24, but I’m not from the states and I think stuff like this is frickin’ thrilling!  I totally had to make myself a milkshake.

DSC00195

Cookie Dough was tasty and I grinned for the next 80miles 🙂

Once we got home I started (still have to finish, whoops!) unpacking and snacked on a 100calorie Popchips sample.

DSC00196

I think salt and vinegar is my least favorite flavor.

Adam and I ran out to Wegmans for a grocery mission around 5.  That meant I had food, but still no time, so we decided to get dinner on the drive home.  Husband’s choice was Boston Market.

DSC00197

I got a half bbq rotisserie chicken sandwich on multigrain bread,

DSC00199

and a side of green beans.

DSC00198

I had never tried Boston Market before but I was pretty darn impressed.  The options were healthy (my meal had 475calories total) and tasty but quicker than you could do at home.  I thought the beans were delicious.

I had a serving of Lindt Sea Salt Dark Chocolate for dessert.

DSC00200

This is my new favorite chocolate, the saltiness adds so much depth to the flavor.

And then I spent 7-11:30 working on my Chemistry homework.  Yes, you did read that right: it took me 4.5hours to complete one homework assignment.  This class is kicking my butt!  I was starving again during my work so I made a quick snack.

DSC00201

I sliced a small potato, spritzed with evoo and sprinkled with dill and salt, and baked at 500* for 20minutes.  With ketchup.

DSC00202

Yums.  Homemade oven “fries” beat real fries any day!

The husband stayed up until 3:30 last night playing x-box with his brother so I am super excited to snuggle tonight!  Sweet dreams.

What is your favorite brand of chocolate?  Do you prefer milk or dark?  I don’t mind milk chocolate but I like dark a lot better.

Queso Queasy

I was starving this afternoon (my brunch really wasn’t enough food) so I ate a small plate of Chex Mix to tide me over until dinner.

DSC00188

I love the crunch/spice of Chex Mix but I wouldn’t never buy it because it’s almost impossible to stick to a serving.  I was very proud of myself that I didn’t get another handful.

For dinner we hit up a local Mexican spot that the husband is obsessed with.  It was  very very typical American “Mexican” food.  Adam is a cheese-hound though so I could see why he was obsessed with it.  I ordered a vegetarian platter.

DSC00189

Chile Poblano, cheese enchillada, rice and beans.  It was waaaaaaay too much cheese.  I adore peppers so I scarfed the Poblano but I left most of everything else on the plate.  I actually stopped eating way before fullness because I knew I would get sick from queso overload.

I’m still hungry and we will be hanging out until late tonight (and drinking) so I am sure some serious snacking will be done!  Tomorrow morning we are making the drive back to Buffalo so we can get our homework done for Monday.  I was planning on getting up to run but my left foot feels pretty bad (the warts, the insane shoe blister, and now the whole foot feels sore) so I think I’ll be smart and take a day off.  It’s tempting to (over)train because I had to take so many days off, but I know another injury will just mean more days off.  I’m going back to the doctor for more painanother treatment on Thursday so I know I’ll be out of commission again soon.  I’ve just got to do my best and stay positive.  See you Sunday!

What is your favorite Mexican food?  I love chile relanos; I always wish they were less cheesey but the chiles themselves are so tasty.

*****11pm Update

Crap eaten?  Check.  After I put my camera away I ate 2 jalopeno poppers and 3/4 of a bag of popcorn.

House in the House

I don’t know how I managed to get Adam out of bed at 8am to run with me this morning, but I did.  He’s not the best running partner though, he made me laugh so hard I had to take a break!  His brother’s neighborhood had a loop, so I ran that 3x and walked in once.  The husband measured it afterwards and found out the loop was .75mile.  That means I did 3miles total, with my walk included.  39minutes, 273calories.

I played a rousing game of Hungry Hippos with my niece before I decided I was a hungry hippo and it was time for a shower.  Then I put together a random lunch plate.

DSC00184

An apple and a few pieces of sliced turkey.

DSC00186

Cheese and pizza bites.

DSC00185

I actually ate another piece bite too, and when I realized I was still starving I got a bowl of cereal.

DSC00187

I haven’t had Lucky Charms in years!

We were supposed to go to the fair today but it is raining buckets so we are just hanging out around the house.  And watching House, they have the newest episode on dvr.  Hope everyone else is having a sunny Saturday.

What are your Saturday plans?

I Was Just Brought a Bellini

We made it!  I felt the need to bicker instead of pack, so we ended up slightly off schedule, but we made it to Ohio by 9o’clock.

The drive up was pretty painless (especially for me because I was only in charge of the music!).  I ate a very late lunch once we got on the road.

DSC00177

2% Fage with jam, sooooo good.  I do like fat free the best but these mixing ones are to die for.

Once we reached our family’s house and did some hanging out we ran out to pick up a late dinner.  Hardee’s was the best we could do, but it ended up being a good meal.

DSC00180

I got a bbq chicken sandwich.

DSC00178

I order it because it was the only nonfried chicken on the menu but it ended up being pretty good.  It was a grilled chicken breast with bbq sauce on a ww bun.

I supplemented with a popchips sample I brought from home.

DSC00179

Salt and Pepper was a little spicy, but a great compliment to the sandwich.

For dessert I had an apple.

DSC00181

And as I started blogging my sister-in-law delivered me a bellini!

DSC00183

It’s family time, gotta drink run!

What do you pack for roadtrips?   I had it in my head that I was packing dinner but then I realized we had no food!  Popchip samples, Lara Bars, and apples seemed like a good idea to me.

Not a Med Student

This is another quickie because as soon as we are finished packing we are heading off to Ohio!  I think I will be posting regularly this weekend, but I’m not sure about the internet situation, it may just be a recap post on Sunday.

This morning I drove to school with Adam at 8.  I studied in the library and felt completely out of place as students in scrubs complained about their physiology test.  One boy actually started talking to me and I had to sheepishly admit I was studying for Chem 101!  While I was there I snacked on a Boomi Bar sample for breakfast.

DSC00174

Not my favorite flavor, but not bad by any stretch.

At 11 I met up with Katie for Starbucks.

DSC00175

I got a tall nonfat iced one pump white mocha (what a mouthful!).  I abandoned it 2/3 through in favor of this.

DSC00176

Starbucks was giving out free shots of the pumpkin spice lattes.  Oh my gosh!  Thank goodness I don’t let myself eat themed foods out of season (i.e. I can not buy this until October) because I would be guzzling these!

I had a great time hearing about Katie’s classes, it’s fun to live vicariously through other people’s RD education.  My plan was to go to the gym afterwards but instead I had to drive around for 20minutes+ to find a parking spot!!!  At least I stopped at a pharmacy and bought some extra large band aids for my foot.

See you in Ohio!

Fabulous Firsts

It’s been a fabulous day!  3 firsts – mileage, lab, chemistry quiz – all went well 🙂

This morning I finished my pre-lab work and did some studying before I headed to the gym at noon.  I was so nervous about my foot that I actually forgot to bring my water bottle and towel; I had to keep hitting pause to run to the water fountain!  Thank goodness I brought my i-pod though, that is the only explanation I have for the amount I was able to rock it out today 🙂  I decided to be kind to my foot and do 2minutes of jogging followed by 1minute of walking.  My end stats –

770calories / 1hour 10minutes / 6miles

Holy cow!  My foot actually didn’t hurt that bad, after 10minutes or so I think it just went numb.  However, something is wrong with my running shoe because the other side of my foot was killing me.  Look what happened to my foot:

DSC00167

I don’t know what the deal is but I’m going to look into new shoes, stat!

Here is the playlist that I’m crediting with my success:

  1. “Fearless” Cyndi Lauper
  2. “Heartbeats” Jose Gonzalez
  3. “A Lack of Color” Death Cab for Cutie
  4. “Bring on the Wonder” Susan Enan
  5. “Keep on Trying” Poco
  6. “A Pain that I’m Used to” Depeche Mode
  7. “I Turn My Camera On” Spoon
  8. “Day After Day” Ben Taylor Band
  9. “I Will Follow You Into the Dark” Death Cab for Cutie
  10. “Pass It On” The Coral
  11. “Stolen” Dashboard Confessionals
  12. “Alive with the Glory of Love” Say Anything
  13. “Where We Gonna Go from Here” Mat Kearney
  14. “Girls Dem Sugar” Beenie Man & Mya
  15. “Romie” Beenie Man
  16. “Taking Over” Sizzla
  17. “Boom Wuk” Tanya Stephens

I took a 30minute break from my to-do’s to guzzle 3 big glasses of water and then it was back to business.  After a quick shower I ate a small sliced apple while studied.

DSC00168

Then I headed to school to do more studying.  The parking is really bad so I try to get to school before 4 for my 5o’clock class.  I did a lot of zoning out, but I got a little bit learned.  I also had a great snack.

DSC00171

Divine Foods sent me a HUGE box of Prana and Boomi bars the other day and I seriously couldn’t be more grateful.  Pistachio Pineapple was tasty tasty.

My first quiz seemed pretty easy, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I did well.  We had our first lab after that; I wasn’t thrilled about the goggles but at least it was easy.

DSC00169

We were finding the volume of an unknown sample, which was quick, but I stayed until 9 to work on the post-work.  I am 95% done for next week!

I didn’t get home until 9:30 and it was time for dinner!

DSC00172

I jazzed up my leftover leftoversfrom Wednesday’s lunch with a little bit of chipotle oil and some wasabi sesame seeds.

DSC00173

I loved this meal (even with double leftovers), I will be using lasagna noodles more often.

Tomorrow morning I am heading to school with Adam and then in the afternoon we are packing up and driving to Ohio to visit my brother-in-law.  I’m not sure when I’ll post, it will be a busy day.  See you soon!

Have you had any firsts this week?
