All Sorts of Win

My day has been like Charlie Sheen, all sorts of winning!  Seriously though, it has been one of those days that are just randomly fantastic.  Good workout, mostly good food, good times with the husband…

Win #1 of the day was the realization that music makes my workouts fly by.  My i-pod broke months ago and my parents gave me an IOU for a replacement in my Christmas stocking but it’s taken me a while to finally cash it in.  I got a nano, in lime green, engraved with my phone # and part of my favorite quote from Robert Frost.

“In three words I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life: it goes on.”

Once I got of Biochem this afternoon I headed straight to the gym, my new i-pod stocked with a new 30minute playlist –

  1. Sweet Light, The Chapin Sisters
  2. The Cave, Mumford and Sons
  3. Coming Home, Diddy
  4. Signal Fire, Snow Patrol
  5. Damn It Feels Good to Be a Gangster, Geto Boys
  6. Heartbeats, Jose Gonzalez
  7. My Dick, Dirt Nasty
  8. Somwhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World, Israel Kamakawiwo’ole

For 30minutes on the elliptical, random level 6.  “What a Wonderful World” is actually the song Adam and I walked down the aisle to once we were married, and when it came on I started to cry!!!  I had to elliptisize as fast as I could to make myself stop being embarrassing (double win!).

Once I was home and showered I headed out on errands with Adam.  Win #2 was the free coffee I picked up at Starbucks for Earth Day –

Seasoned with a big pour of skim milk and two sugars.

Our errands included a trip to the mall for Adam to get an eye check up, where I sat in the food court for an hour and wrote notecards like a weirdo.  I may have looked like a creeper, but I actually got a lot done.

Not a win, was the fact that we were busy straight through lunch and ended up not eating anything.  By 5:30 when we left the mall I was having a definite panic attack of hunger.  I ended up randomly grabbing this Liquid Taffy candy to split with Adam.

Such a win!  The texture of this was divine; a velvety, less chewy taffy.

We continued dessert before dinner by splitting froyo.

Fat free chocolate and vanilla twist, topped with strawberries, sprinkles, and granola.

Total win!

Dinner, not such a win.  It was poised to be good…

We headed to Taste of Thai on Hertel (an avenue with tons of good-looking restaurants and next to no parking), where we split our regular order – Pad See Eiw with tofu,

and Cashew Chicken.

The dishes had tons of veggies (our complaint with Buffalo Thai has been the lack of veggies), but that’s where the compliments end.  The renditions were painfully inauthentic, and way too salty to boot.  Fail!

But being with the husband is always a win.  Especially for the rest of the evening, for which our big plans include the latest Community and the splitting of two mini ice creams.

This day has been sweet, in every sense of the word!

What was your most recent #win?

New and Exciting

Just before 2am last night I got completely caught up with all of my reading.  The sad thing is that I love the reading and find it really interesting so there is zero reason why I should have been behind in the first place!

In spite of sleep-deprevation I was pretty proud of my wardrobe choices, my outfit was actually inspired by a magazine article, something I never do (new).

I couldn’t get a good picture,

but you can see what I was going for.

My layers might have been a bit thick though, by the time I got my coat on I felt like the kid from A Christmas Story.

For breakfast I grabbed a biscuit with a little honey.

And I realized I was getting nothing done quickly at home so I grabbed some snacks and headed to school an hour early to study there.

I ate the Kind Bar during Chem at 5 and it was great but sadly the grapes when straight into the trash.  I’ve been hearing for years how amazing frozen grapes taste but they made me gag.

To make up for my (overall) lack of produce I snagged lunch from the cafeteria.

A garlic wrap with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, alfalfa sprouts, banana peppers, black olives, and a little bit of sesame dressing.

I saved the banana for Anthro, alongside a large skim latte.

I was planning on attending a review session for the exam after class but I was the only loser who showed up so I told them to cancel it, boo.  I got lots of work done on my own but the large coffee might have been a bad idea, I was literally shaking!  I grabbed a snack from the vending machine to eat in the car in the hopes of evening out.

Soooo glad I tried this, this was a new brand to me and these are literally the best chips I’ve ever tasted!  They were so tangy, and ridged like Ruffles but super thick.  Plus, the bag had less than 200calories (comparable sizes seem to be 300+).

After classes I came home, picked up the husband, and headed straight to the gym.  My new playlist helped me power through my workout; it was a great mix of old and new music with a good range of tempos.

40 minute playlist

  1. Wavin’ Flag – K’naan
  2. I Know You Want Me – Pitbull
  3. Whine Up – Kat DeLuna feat. Elephant Man
  4. Promiscuous – Nelly Furtado and Timberland
  5. What’s in the Middle – The Bird and the Bee
  6. This is Why I’m Hot – Mims
  7. Into the Ocean – Blue October
  8. Sugar, We’re Going Down – Fallout Boy
  9. Semi-Charmed Life – Third Eye Blind
  10. TiK ToK – Ke$ha
  11. Swing – Savage and Soulja Boy

The plan was treadmill time but both my shins were killing me so I took several long walks to loosen them up.  In the end I did 52minutes, 4.5miles follwed by pt and some abs work.

Running killed my appettite, but I was hungry for ice-cream.  I tried a new product – Cyclops Strawberry Greek Style Frozen Yogurt,

in a (new) ice-cream bowl from my grandma.

I had a half cup (plus a little) serving.

This was delicious!  I loved the flavor although I wish it had been creamier, this was more like ice-cream than froyo.

In addition to taking a shower I also have to do my lab flow-chart for tomorrow morning before bed, gotta run!

Gaga, Green Beans, Grapple, Giveaway*

*If you could care less what I ate or how pt is going, skip to the bottom for a giveaway!

If you do care, I had my last pt session today!  I have a (long) set of exercises that I should plan on doing indefinitely.  Post-foot surgery in January if I’m having pain when I start running again then I’ll go back for another appointment.  For now, I plan on doing my exercises and enjoying the few weeks in December I have to run.

I warm up on the treadmill for 20minutes during pt so the gym was a logical next stop.  I had a quick snack at home to refuel first.  A tiny sliver of Kerrygold Aged Cheddar with Irish Whiskey.

And something I’ve been eyeing for months and months that finally went on sale – GRAPPLES!

The grape-apple hybrid caught my eye back in Brooklyn and I was so excited to finally try it.  The apples have a slight maroon tinge and smell a lot like grape soda.  The small is more noticable than the taste though, just a slight afterflavor of tang.  Still good though.

Fueled, I hit up the treadmill for a run.  My plan was to do 2minute run/1minute walk intervals.  That was what I did most of the time, but a few times I just couldn’t bear to stop running!  I did a few extended walks too so hopefully it all evened out.  In the end my stats were – 38minutes / 3.2miles / 395calories.  My music made the work out –35minute Playlist

  1. Into the Ocean; Blue October
  2. Every Ship Must Sail Away, Blue Merle
  3. Hot Blooded, Foreigner
  4. No Long Talking, Lady Saw
  5. Fearless, Cyndi Lauper
  6. I Know You Want Me, Pitbull
  7. Paparazzi, Lady Gaga
  8. Bad Romance, Lady Gaga
  9. Platypus (I Hate You), Green Day

It  was the perfect mix.  The husband (ahem) got me obsessed with Lady Gaga recently.  I hate her old stuff, but the two songs on the playlist are pretty damn catchy and you have to like her music videos – I love the styling and contrasts.

After a quick shower it was time for lunch.

Amy’s Fire Roasted Southwestern Vegetable Soup,

and green bean fries.

The “fries” were spritzed with evoo, sprinkled with salt and paprika, and baked at 450* for 20minutes.  They were delicious, but maybe could have used ten more mintues.

Yes, I ate the entire bag.  Yes, I know that is disgusting.  Yes, it was delicious.  The soup was tasty too.

I loved the flavor, but I left most of the broth.  It was a yummy lunch.

Now I’m off to study.  For the rest of the day.  Ugh.

*Now we are talking about the free stuff –

Fabulous Firsts

It’s been a fabulous day!  3 firsts – mileage, lab, chemistry quiz – all went well 🙂

This morning I finished my pre-lab work and did some studying before I headed to the gym at noon.  I was so nervous about my foot that I actually forgot to bring my water bottle and towel; I had to keep hitting pause to run to the water fountain!  Thank goodness I brought my i-pod though, that is the only explanation I have for the amount I was able to rock it out today 🙂  I decided to be kind to my foot and do 2minutes of jogging followed by 1minute of walking.  My end stats –

770calories / 1hour 10minutes / 6miles

Holy cow!  My foot actually didn’t hurt that bad, after 10minutes or so I think it just went numb.  However, something is wrong with my running shoe because the other side of my foot was killing me.  Look what happened to my foot:

I don’t know what the deal is but I’m going to look into new shoes, stat!

I took a 30minute break from my to-do’s to guzzle 3 big glasses of water and then it was back to business.  After a quick shower I ate a small sliced apple while studied.

Then I headed to school to do more studying.  The parking is really bad so I try to get to school before 4 for my 5o’clock class.  I did a lot of zoning out, but I got a little bit learned.  I also had a great snack.

DSC00171

Divine Foods sent me a HUGE box of Prana and Boomi bars the other day and I seriously couldn’t be more grateful.  Pistachio Pineapple was tasty tasty.

My first quiz seemed pretty easy, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I did well.  We had our first lab after that; I wasn’t thrilled about the goggles but at least it was easy.

DSC00169

We were finding the volume of an unknown sample, which was quick, but I stayed until 9 to work on the post-work.  I am 95% done for next week!

I didn’t get home until 9:30 and it was time for dinner!

DSC00172

I jazzed up my leftover leftoversfrom Wednesday’s lunch with a little bit of chipotle oil and some wasabi sesame seeds.

DSC00173

I loved this meal (even with double leftovers), I will be using lasagna noodles more often.

Tomorrow morning I am heading to school with Adam and then in the afternoon we are packing up and driving to Ohio to visit my brother-in-law.  I’m not sure when I’ll post, it will be a busy day.  See you soon!

Have you had any firsts this week?

Time and a Half Tunes

Hiya!  I hope everyone else is feeling good, I’m actually having a great day 🙂  We changed the sheets and towels, have laundry going, and we’re about to walk to the mail.  Plus we have lots of fun for this afternoon, including a grocery trip, a wings festival, and a bbq this evening.

We woke up this morning at 8 and got ready to gym it.  My training schedule had me doing 20minutes of cross-training today, but my i-pod playlist was so good I couldn’t stop!  In the end I was on the elliptical for 39minutes (450calories, at level 7).  As long as I run 2miles tomorrow, my goals for this week will be fulfilled.  I included my banging playlist below, as I highly recommend it.

This morning I ate a small slice of leftover pizza on the walk to the gym for fuel.

HPIM4394

And as soon as I hit publish I’m making the husband and I a smoothie.  I’m pretty hungry but I am planing on doing some wing noshing.  I’ll see you this afternoon.
