Newsies

Hello, hello!  Sorry for the late breakfast post but I had an 8:15 advising appointment this morning.  Which leads me to the news I’ve hinting at ……. I was accepted to the Dietetics program at Buffalo State College for Fall 2010.  My meeting this morning had to do with applying for summer school, I’m hoping to get a jump on classes.

I almost missed my meeting, I forgot to take my cell phone alarm off vibrate last night; thank goodness the buzzing woke up the husband!  Since I overslept a bit I made breakfast an on-the-go affair:

So delicious, key lime mix1 enhanced protein shake.

The drink held me over well, but I did eat a yogurt when I got home.

Yoplait Fat Free Banana Cream Pie.

I’ve got an easy morning scheduled, but I do have some packing to do.  More news?!?  Adam and I are going to PA this weekend!  My sister-in-law is pregnant and on extended bed-rest and since Adam’s Spring break is next week it seemed like a good time to visit.  We also have a super exciting surprise stop on the way home.  I can’t wait!

Are any of my readers career changers?  I taught 8th grade English for two years before quitting my job to persue a career in nutrition.

Equations of Sorts

It’s 9:20 and I would kill to already be in bed so I’ll keep this short and sweet.  My day went lab –> people watching on campus –> doctor’s appointment/waiting for the husband’s doctor’s appointment –>  eating junk whilst watching tv –> this super lame post.

Breakfast = green.

1cup frozen spinach, 1cup oj, 1 frozen banana.

Lunch = sandwich + spicy.

Bread, sliced turkey, spinach, Crofters superfruit spread, cheese.  Looks unassuming, but the Yancey’s Farm Buffalo Wing cheese was intense.

Plus a sliced jazz apple.

A less healthy snack.

1 small mint milkshake – minty flavor = half a milkshake in the trash.

Dinner = Moes.

Chicken Homewrecker Jr (that’s a small plate).

I swear on a Big Gulp of diet coke that I will have an actual post tomorrow.  And some good news!

Slopped on Bagels and Secret Buffalo

Hi y’all, sorry for the late post!  It’s been a long (but good[ish]) day.  Adam and I stayed up way too late watching tv last night.  Catching up on “Modern Family” was amazing, but oversleeping this morning meant I didn’t have time to pack up like I’d planned.  At least I found at outfit that thrilled me –

My new blue chinos ($18, love love loved the Orlando outlet malls!) feel like Spring!

I drove the husband to school because I had an 8am coffee date with my friend Kate; “Free Pastry Day” at Starbucks was just too good to pass up.

I got a tall, skinny (i.e. small, nonfat and sugarfree) cinnamon dolce latte,

and a low-fat banana chocolate chip coffee cake.

I wanted to like the pastry, I really did, but it just tasted “diet.”  I prefer diet sodas to regular but anything else, yetch!  I ate about half of it so that I’d have something in my belly for breakfast.

Katie went to class around 9 and I ended up working on my Chemistry lab instead of reading; my mind just did not want to study for today’s test!  My desire for a good breakfast (and a need for caffeine to study with) fueled my lunch selection from the cafeteria.

Huge diet coke and a blueberry bagel with strawberry cream cheese.

I don’t want to complain, because the bagel was delicious and the cream cheese had real strawberries in it, but “deli-prepared” bagels always piss me off.  The cream cheese on my bagel was literally less than half of the amount the man wanted to put on.  Why?  Slopping on 3+ tablespoons of cream cheese is wasteful, unnecessary, and unhealthy.  I don’t understand why stores do this but I always make sure I ask for ‘half of what you usually use.’

My Anthro test went less than well, let’s just leave it at that.  Since I did poorly on both of my recent tests I know that I need to buckle down for the rest of the semester.  In fact, in between my test and my 2nd class I got right to work on the reading for the next class 🙂

After class (6:30) I had to pick up the husband, finish my lab, and un/pack my stuff for tomorrow.  I ate a small snack while I worked; pineapple and low fat cottage cheese.

Then, finally it was time to make dinner.

Buffao Chicken Baked Pasta.  I wish I could share the recipe with you guys but it’s my entry to a contest.  It was delicious though.

I’m going to do a quick quick (5-10minute) strength/stretch session and then I’ve got to hop in the shower.  I have a pilates video in my plan for tomorrow and I’m so excited!  Tomorrow will be another late(ish) post, I’ve got 8am lab and then a doctor’s appointment.  Cross your fingers for me that I’m actually able to schedule my bone scan.

What restaurant practices piss you off?

The Good & The Bad

The Good – I managed to schedule all of my various meetings.  I have doctor’s appointment, an advising appointment, and a full calendar.

The Bad – I am going to fail my test tomorrow.  I am 24years old and I didn’t study for my test at all, really?

The Bad – I didn’t eat lunch and I hit the Easter package my parents sent hard.

The Good – I finally managed to heat up my mall leftovers (with a bit of evoo and cheese).

The Bad – I scrapped my dinner plans in favor of takeout.  No pictures because the husband wants this post finished by the time he gets home with the food, but I ordered a Buffalo chicken sandwich.

The Good – I’ll be fat and happy, no cooking means extra time to cuddle with the husband.  And it gave us time to submit our FAFSAs, yay!

The Bad – my workout got scrapped as well.

The Good – the husband promised to make me do at least 5minutes before my shower tonight.

P.S. Tomorrow I have an 8am coffee date and then I’m heading straight to campus for my test, library time, and classes.  I’ll see you in the evening with a recap post.

Off the Cuff Remarks

This morning just feels off.  My sleep was weird, my hunger was wierd, my head feels weird…  Last night was another on of those toss-and-turners, but I hit the pillow at 10:30 so by 7:30 it was time to get up.  I’ve had a headache on and off for the last few days and this morning was no different.  I knew I needed a childhood favorite for breakfast.

Low-fat coffee yogurt with 2T peanuts and a drizzle of honey.

Yum, I used to love this combo.

I decided to watch a bit of tv while I ate in the hopes of distracting myself out of my headache.  Soon I needed to be distracted from my hunger though.  I ended up eating the rest of the peanuts,

as well as some candy from the movies still in the bottom of my purse.

A breakfast of champions! 😉

I have a lot more Anthropology studying to do so I’ll probably head down to the coffee shop to work.  I’ve also got a strength/stretch session on the agenda once my head feels 100%.  And a few appointments to make.  Funwise I have a magazine calling my name and a new recipe to try out for dinner.

What’d you have for breakfast today?

A Flown-by Weekend

Time is moving too quickly – my Anthro test is in 1.5 days and I’ve only read 3 out of 7 chapters from this section!  Whoopsie!  I’ve already kind of accepted that I’m going to bomb this test, and while I’m going to study a bit I’m not going to stress.  I have a 3rd test and a final and I’m going to have to buckle down and knock those both out of the park.  (is there another cliché I could add there?)

Caroline isn’t taking her Chemistry test (my Friday test) until Monday so she offered to meet up at the Spot and have a separate-subject-study-date with me.  I could feel distraction hitting the moment I got there so I doubled up on caffine –

A medium nonfat iced latte,

and chocolate covered espresso beans (I only ate a few).

We were there from 3ish – 8 so I ended up doing dinner out as well.

Pizza bagels might be my new favorite thing.  I need to start recreating them at home.

The husband’s flu just might be the best influence we’ve got because the plan is to turn in early tonight as well.  Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Pizza bagel, pizza pita, or pizza pizza?

Brunch Before Buckles

It’s been a glorious, spring Sunday!  Adam and I have been having a grand day, although pretty soon I’m going to have to face the reality that I’ve got a test to study for.  Sleeping 10hours (11pm – 9am!) definitely put me in a good frame of mind.

Getting in 10minutes of strength and stretch moves before my shower this morning didn’t hurt my mood either.  Then Adam and I took a walk of sorts (1/2mile) to the Walgreens; I love being outside!!!  It didn’t take much for the husband to convince me that brunch was in order.

Our first stop was a restaurant right down the street from our apartment.

The menu looked good but we were the only people in the restaurant and it was just too weird so we split.

We ended up at JP Bullfeathers, which ended up being a great choice.  We want to go back for dinner asap.

When the waitress asked me if I wanted my Bloody Mary “regular, mild, or hot?” I knew we’d found a good spot.

I ordered the buttermilk pecan hot cakes for brunch.

They came with tangy apple butter instead of syrup, which I thought was a nice healthy spin.

And I asked for a side of fruit in place of bacon.

I ended up eating 2/3 pancakes and all of the fruit; it’s watermelon season!

Now it’s time to buckle down and get to work on Anthropology.  I’ve got a study date at the Spot so I’ll probably get dinner there.  Hope everyone has a great Sunday!

Are you a Bloody Mary fan?  Tomato juice?  Vodka?  I don’t love vodka and I hate tomato juice but Bloody Marys are my favorite drink!

Spring Has Sprung

Hi folks, I hope everyone is having a fabulous weekend.  Is it spring in your neighborhood yet?

I couldn’t go on the nice long walk like I would like so I celebrated the start of spring via wardrobe today –

I’ve waited all winter to break out that headband 😉

Between Adam’s flu and my broken leg our grocery trip was long and harrowing.  We got the essentials though, and put them home in the fridge in time to head to the mall for an early dinner.  We stopped to get gas and I grabbed a coffee to tide over my hunger.

I tried a new trick to get tasty, healthy coffee.  2/3 snickerdoodle coffee (flavored beans) and 1/3 English toffee from the cappuccino machine (sweetened).  It made the perfect blend.

We can’t not go to Jack Astors.

I ordered the vegetable pad thai.

The sauce was nothing like pad thai, but there were tons of veggies (zucchini and carrots) so I was happy.

I ate about half, most of the veggies and eggs, not a lot of the noodles (leftovers) –

And then Adam and I went to the movie theatre for Alice in Wonderland.  Carrol is one of my all-time favorite authors so I was so excited for this movie!  I was a little worried because I always prefer the books (and I did this time too) but overall I was pretty impressed.

Adam’s sickness means we are turning in early, which means I’ll see you all in the morning 🙂

Have you seen “Alice” yet?  Thoughts?
