Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

*I’m being cheerful here* Good morning!  I showered and got in bed before 9 last night (when I would have finished lab had I been allowed to stay)!  I slept terribly so I’m not as rested as you might think, but I got up at 8 on the dot and started my (better) day!

First things first, I packed my bag and thoroughly checked to make sure I have everything I need.  I’m going to be on campus for 8hours today so I need to be prepared!

Then I ate breakfast.

DSC00303

Yogurt + ~2t peanuts + ~1/2t Crofters.  I was very impressed with this store brand yogurt.  It was cheap, tasty, almost as thick as Greek yogurt, and full of healthy probiotics.

I watched the Bones episode from last night online while I ate and drank a purple Rockstar to fuel for the gym as well.

DSC00304

Now on the agenda is gym, shower, and off.

How long will you be at work today?

Que Sera Sera

My apologizes, no photos (or real post) this evening.  It was a hard day.  I’m not sure why I’m in such a motivation slump but I’m pissing myself off.  That aside, I forgot my goggles and was sent home from lab.  Which meant I just killed my 100%.  Boo.  Sorry to be a Debbie Downer.  Tomorrow will be better.

What was the last stupid thing you did?  I can’t beleive I forgot my goggles, I seriously check my bags like 8 times!

Extra Kredit

I know, I know, I just did my dinner post!  Consider this extra-credit for funsies.  The fabulous Katie gave me an award –

award

Thank you!  Now I am supposed to tell you 7 random facts about myself:

  1. Earlier todayI mentioned that my middle name is Helen, but now I’ll tell you that my full name (too much blog disclosure???) is Emily Helen Wax.  When I was a kid my parents used to say “Emily Helen Wax, Boop Boop!”  My best friend practically lived with me and of course she heard so for several years many friends called me that in public!
  2. Similarly, all of my friends have always called me Wax (some said E) and when people call me Emily I get very confused.
  3. I started running because my (now)husband was on the high school cross-country team and I wanted to flirt with him!
  4. I also did volleyball, basketball, and softball (I sucked at all of them, badly), and cheerleading.
  5. My rhythm is so bad that when I was a cheerleader I was told to pantomime clapping, I wasn’t allowed to actually make noise!
  6. When I was in high school my parents said I could pierce my belly button if I attended Saturday math tutoring…..the class was canceled after 2 weeks! 🙂
  7. For my birthdays I’ve – gone rock climbing, gone parasailing, gone sky diving, shot a gun, and flown a plane.

And award 3 other bloggers (this was hard, I realize not all of these are healthy living blogs, and I’m not sure if they’ve already been awarded):

  1. Cybele from Candy Blog
  2. Camile from Classroom Confessions
  3. Kelly from Beneath It All

Now I’m off to write a short acceptance speech that I can slyly pull out of my pocket in mock surprise…….

Random and Randomer

My title makes me think of “curious and curiouser” a line from Alice in Wonderland(one of my top 5 favorite books!).  I am so excited for that movie to come out, I can’t wait to see Tim Burton’s spin on it.  In general I’ve been super annoyed by all of the children’s books turned live-action movies (The Grinch, Cat in the Hat, etc; blech) but I have high hopes for this one.  I am also excited for “Couples’ Retreat,” which comes out this weekend.  I have a trip to the movies planned to celebrate my first Chem exam.

If breakfast/lunch were random, dinner was randomer.  For full disclosure’s sake, I would like to mention that I’ve eaten 3-5 fruit gel candies without photographing today.  Equally junky was the snack I bought for class; I usually don’t eat during class but I was super hungry when I got to campus –

DSC00289

I never buy Snyder’s pretzels because I have zero self-control with those delicious nuggets but this vending machine find had a slightly more reasonable 2servings per bag.

After class Caroline asked if I wanted to grab dinner and do some review.  After wasting time all day it was the perfect opportunity to make up!  Plus, we got Wegman’s salad bar which you know I love.

DSC00290

Steamed broccoli,

DSC00292

roasted brussels sprouts (nowhere near as good as the ones I make at home, *mental note to make them soon*),

DSC00291

and curried tofu.

DSC00293

All pretty yummy.  I love that the curried tofu had raisins in it!

We got a lot done and I got home around 10.  It ended up being a semi-sucessful day.  My foot has been really hurting and favoring my other side has caused my right hip to hurt but I am hoping to make it to the gym for a run tomorrow.  I have a doctor’s appointment this Friday which we put me out of commission for at least a few days so I don’t want to fall too far behind.  I’m going to do some blog reading and then I need to hit the sack to rest up for tomorrow, night!

Do you like raisins in things?  I love them, I put raisins in salad, cookies, where ever I can fit them.

Random

I have not gotten near enough done today (unless you count the huge stack of magazines I powered through as an accomplishment) so this post needs to be quick.  All of my food choices have been unbelievably random today.

“Breakfast” was the last serving of Food Should Taste Good Lime Chips.

DSC00284

For lunch I followed last night’s theme and did some more using up.  The last Flat Out wrapped around the last Boca Spicy Chik’n Patty, with lettuce, carrots, cheese, and buffalo sauce.

DSC00285

DSC00286

For fruit I made a smoothie – 1C passionfruit pulp, 1 fat free plain Oikos, big splash oj, drizzle honey.

DSC00288

And I snacked on a Healthy Hazel Boomi Bar sample.

DSC00287

I’ll be back after class this evening.

Tell me one random thing about yourself.  I’ll go first – My middle name is Helen.

Mish Mash Meal

Fabulous day alert!  After so many weeks of being a lazy blob I am seriously relishing my productivity.  Post office, studying, dinner; check, check, check!  Plus I rocked two of my grandma’s old necklaces which always makes me happy.

DSC00274

The line at the post office was redonculous, but a very sweet package from my mommy was a nice reward at the end.  Lots of excitement ensued; I got a  bunch of magazines, new book,

DSC00277

a baggie of my favorite candy of all time ever (I ate one of these without photographing), fruit gels,

DSC00276

and a P.E. T-shirt from my old high school!

DSC00275

After my not ‘rain nor snow’ing I met up with a friend from Chemistry to study.  We got in a solid 5 hours!  As much as we accomplished, I didn’t do so hot on the practice tests so I know I have my work cut out for me this week.

I got home around 8:30 and got right to dinner.  My goal was to use up leftovers, frozen food, and my Annie Chun’s sample.

DSC00278

The end result was seriously socks rocking!  I was in absolute heaven eating this plate.

DSC00279

I heated chipotle pepper oil over medium high heat.  Added 2 chopped Apple Maple Sausages (I froze these a few months ago) and 2 big handfuls spinach/arugula and a small handful shredded carrot.  Next I added leftover roasted butternut squash from yesterday and 1/2 of the black pearl rice.  Then I stirred in a splash each of soy sauce, rice vinegar, and sesame seeds.  Finally I broke in 1egg and stirred.

DSC00282

I couldn’t get over how good this was!  What a mix of flavors and textures, lots of sweet/savory which I love.

DSC00281

For dessert I tried some of my new candies.

DSC00283

They were good, but the Sunkist ones are the best.

We started watching “Glory Road” while we ate and I’m enjoying it.  See you tomorrow!

Have you made any good mish-mash meals lately?

Burst Your Bubble

I was losing my motivation after the last post – I was hungry and distracted and I could feel myself spacing out.  However, my test is this Friday so I distracted myself with a piece of gum and buckled down.

DSC00270

I chipped away at the reading I’m behind on and have almost finished all of my notecards for the material on the test.

Lunch was another taco salad, I’m still not sick of these!  I would like to say I put the bowl beside my work and took ladylike bites, but that happened for all of 30seconds before the shoveling began 🙂

DSC00271

  • lettuce base
  • ~1/2C black beans
  • ~2T 2% colby jack
  • heap hot/chunky salsa
  • 1serving Lime Food Should Taste Good Chips

DSC00272

Mmmmn.  I also snacked on one serving of roasted peanuts.

DSC00273

I’ve got to rush off again, I’m heading to the post office and then meeting a study buddy at the Spot.  See you for dinner!

What is your favorite flavor of gum?  I was actually going to cry when I found out that Cherry Coke Bubblicious had been discontinued!  In general I don’t chew a lot of gum (Trident White once every few months) but in high school I chomped constantly!

Great Blogs Think Alike

Good morning!  I hope everyone’s day is off to a good start.  Mine has managed to be both relaxing and productiveEmbarassing secret time – scary movies have made me afraid of everything.  It’s gotten better as I’ve gotten older (when I was a teenager I would jump into bed so my feet didn’t go underneath the bed!) but I still can’t shake my shower anxiety.  I am very uncomfortable to be in the shower when I’m home alone.  I peek out the curtain multiple times and hurry through everything.  And since Adam is so busy almost all of my showers are alone.

But this morning I switched up my schedule and found a solution.  I got up at 5:45 and headed to the gym early so I could come home and shower before the husband left for school.  I came home and took a nice luxurious shower; I conditioned my hair, and used my favorite body scrub.

DSC00263

I won’t be doing this every morning, but it’s a nice solution for me to keep in mind.  The gym was pretty successful too.  My training schedule had 3miles for today.  With warm up and cool down I did 38minutes/3.8miles/420calories.

After the aforementioned shower I got started on breakfast.  It’s possible I was so hungry that I snagged a small hunk of chocolate pb bread before I even thought about real food.

DSC00267

I think every blogger who received this Nature’s Pride bread from the Foodbuzz Tastemaker program thought french toast and I was no different!  I received two loaves to sample but for now I put one in the freezer and am focusing on 12 Grain.

DSC00264

I soaked two pieces of bread in a mixture of 1egg, 1/2C skim milk, 1shake each cinnamon and nutmeg, and 1T vanilla.  The bread took a luxurious shower of it’s own (a quick soak), spent a few minutes in the sauna (pan with 1/2T SmartBalance), and gussied up with maple syrup and a chopped white peach and nectarine.

DSC00268

I loved the texture of the Nature’s Pride bread, and the toast was nice and eggy.

DSC00269

So yum, full recipe here.  The plan for the morning is lots and lots of Chemistry make-up.  I have 2 chapters to read – I’m only planning on doing one today though – another chapter to make notecards for, and a slew of practice tests to work on.  Gotta go get my brain working!

What are you afraid of?  I also have a major aversion to spiders.  But I actually like most other typical girl fears (frogs, snakes, etc.)!  My “abstract” fears are that I won’t figure out what to do with my life in time and I’ll get stuck in something that I don’t enjoy and that I’ll injure myself and lose my ability to run.
