Window Shopping Wednesday

I am not much of a shopper, much to my mother’s chagrin. The woman can spend days at the mall, while I start to feel itchy after just a few hours. It’s not that I’m not materialistic, I totally am, it’s just that the thought of adding more stuff to my life makes it hard to breathe. But I like the idea of things. So I’m an avid window shopper. I browse catalogs I’ll never buy from and hold my breathe when I pass the window at J.Crew. So while I’m stuck at school on Wednesdays, I thought we could have some fun via blog. Let’s window shop!

This week let’s covet dessert –

1.  people’s pops Cookbook

I had a strawberry people’s pop at a farmer’s market in Brooklyn once and it was delicious.  The company is very cool and the flavors are inventive and fun.

2.  Root Beer Float Extra Dessert Delights

I know that gum is kind of lame for a dessert list but this line from Extra is really good!  I’ve tried key lime pie and mint chip ice cream and I thought they both got the taste spot on.  I’d love to see what they do with fizz.

3.  Malted Milk Balls from Koppers

Normally I pick a specific flavor but this time I’m saying “all of the above.”  Or at least maple, peanut butter, and coconut.

4.  Bee Pollen Chocolate Bars from Hammond’s

I love the idea of honey with chocolate.  5% of the sales of this product are donated toward bee sustainability efforts around the world.

5.  Artisan Marshmallows from 240sweet

This time I’m definitely saying all of the above!  I mean, are they serious with those flavors?  Maple and Brown SugarHoney LavenderRoasted PineappleTurkey with Sage Dressing?!?  And that’s not even a quarter of the options.

Which of my five picks would be your favorite?  Mine are for sure the marshmallows.

Here’s what I’m liking this week –

1.  Pretty Posies Lap Desk from All for Color

I mostly sit on the couch with a pillow in my lap and a laptop or binder on top anyway but this has a drink holder.  The drink holder is definitely a missing component in my current system.

2.  Easy Fitted Jacket from Coldwater Creek

I love the idea of a hunter green (aka “parsley sprig”) jacket.  This one has 3/4 sleeves and a slightly flared fit.  When I’m a grown up I’m going to wear a jacket on the daily.

3.  Polka Dot Skirt from Windsor

I would wear this with my jacket!  Maybe.  Definitely with my black, sleeveless turtleneck.  I love classy polka dots.

4.  Three Twins Ice Cream in Lemon Cookie

I make a lemon cookie smoothie but I bet this is better.  The ice cream is organic, the flavors are varied, and if you can ignore their self-righteousness the company seems cool.

5.  Fiona Apple’s The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do

I’ve only listened to a few song previews, but – need, need, need, need, need!  I am basically obsessed with Fiona Apple and I’ve listened to all of her previous albums on repeat for many years.

Are/were you a Fiona Apple fan?  Have you heard the newest album yet?

Here’s what I’m wishing for this week –

1.  Cinnamon Bun Dip from Hammond’s Candies

The website recommends serving this with pretzels or on top of ice cream, but I’m pretty sure that I would swirl this into the middle of homemade cinnamon buns.  I’ve never actually made cinnamon buns before, but if I could fill them with cinnamon bun dip I would probably make the effort.  Tasty and meta.

2.  Eat Dessert First Plates from Rosanna Inc

Also meta(ish)… I need-need-need to own these plates, bake a layered cake, serve said cake on said plates, and lick frosting off of the pictures of cakes while giggling with delight.  The polka dot background just makes me want them even more.

3.  A Bunny Egg Cozy from Branch

I mean…  I don’t think I’d ever put an egg inside one of these bunnies, but I sure need them hopping along my mantle in the Spring.

4.  Sir Kensington’s Spiced Ketchup

Infused with chipotle peppers, cilantro, lime juice, agave nectar, honey, and coriander.  You could put this on a hot dog and feel fancy as hell.  Eat like a sir.

5.  Signs of Life by Natalie Taylor

Just reading the synopsis makes me start to cry – this is Taylor’s memoir about life after her husband’s sudden, unexpected death – but I’ve seen reviews in multiple magazines and they all raved about this book.  Anyone who can be “laugh out loud funny” in a heart-wrenching memoir deserves my read.  Plus, I checked out the “about this author” on Taylor’s website and I like her already.

Be honest, would you use a felt egg cozy?

Here’s what I’m crazy for this week –

1.  The Chicago Mix from G.H. Cretors

I know I post a lot of popcorn on WSW, but how can I not?  There are so many tasty sounding types out there!  G.H. Cretors is a family business with all-natural, kosher products.  All of their flavors sound good (kettle corn! caramel nut crunch!) but the Chicago Mix would be the perfect blend of sweet and savory – Caramel Corn and Cheddar Cheese Corn mingling in one bag.  I actually don’t really like cheese flavored popcorn but something about this company and this blend makes it appealing.

2.  The Starfish Journal from Night Owl Paper Goods

I basically just wanted everything I saw on this site.  Owls, hedgehogs, stripes, and swirls abounded.  When I had-to-had-to pick a favorite (so I could show y’all a picture) I went with this journal because I adore starfish.  Did you know that our wedding had a starfish theme?

3.  The Elsa Peretti Starfish Pendant

Speaking of starfish… I’ve now been coveting this pendant for a full decade.  Tiffany & Co. probably won’t be on my shopping list for another decade still, but this necklace is the most “me” piece of jewelry I’ve ever seen.

4. Scallop Stitched Cupcake Stands from Sweet Lulu

This was another site where I just had to pick a favorite of favorites.  Apparently Sweet Lulu is the one-stop-shop for the party of my dreams.  Cupcake toppers, and milk bottles, and striped straws, oh my!

5.  Anatomical Sweet Heart Floursack Tea Towels from Girls Can Tell

Adam is leaning more towards Oncology than Cardiology, but I’m still pretty sure we need this tea towel.  I adore the look of this type of drawing.  I’m also a big fan of the feel of science-y things in the kitchen.  And I should note – I went weak in the knees for most of this site as well.  I’m having an excitable day.

What is getting you excited this week?

Here are the foods that are making my mouth water this week –

1. DRY Lavender Soda

I always complain – about sodas, teas, lemonades, etc – about the dearth of “low sugar” options.  As in not full of sugar, or especially not full of HFCS, and not fake sugar.  I am forever on the lookout for a product that uses just a little sugar.  Enter DRY Sodas.  The funky flavors are sweetened lightly with cane sugar and each bottle has 40 – 70 calories.  Plus, I’m pretty sure I’d pine for lavender soda with any type of sugar.  Vanilla Bean sounds pretty swoon-worthy too!

2.  Hint Fizz in Watermelon

Another beverage.  I’ve always been intrigued by Hint Water but I have a hard time getting excited about drinks that aren’t fizzy.  This new line is still free of calories and artificial sweeteners, but now it’s fizzy!  Watermelon sounds perfect for summer, especially if you managed to use it in a mojito.

3.  Zico Latte Coconut Water

And yet another!  I’m basically obsessed with the Chocolate Zico and I know that a coffee version would rock my world.  This new product seems to not be available in most locations yet but the reviews I read online were all positive.  From BEVNET – “The product, a blend of coconut water from concentrate, sugar, coconut cream, coffee and vanilla, weighs in at 120 calories and has 85 mg of caffeine.”

4.  Belgian Chocolate S’mores Ciao Bella Gelato

I don’t have much to say about this one because it’s obvious.  S’mores and gelato?  Gonna be good.  Ciao Bella’s Key Lime Pie Gelato is in my top ten favorites for frozen desserts so I trust them to do s’mores right.

5.  A Several Caramel and Marshmallow Crispycakes from The Crispery

First things first – The Crispery is a little business that specializes in crisp rice marshmallow treats.  Awesome name, awesome concept, awesome thing to specialize in.  They have a huge variety of crispy cakes, including several crispycake sandwiches.  Basically this is a sandwich of crispycake bread and caramel and marshmallow fluff filling.  Best idea ever?

Have you tried any new food products this summer that have rocked your world?

Here’s what I’m liking this week –

1.  S’mores Marshmallows from Koppers Chocolate

Mini marshmallows dipped in milk chocolate and then again in graham crackers?  Count me in!  These seem like they have a good balance of the crucial s’more ingredients.

2.  The 3 Ft Inflatable T-Rex from Fred Flare

I had this as a kid!!  Or at least I had something very similar; but it does trigger some memories.  I’d definitely display this guy in our apartment but I’m not sure the husband would be a fan.

3.  The Ciate Cavier Manicure Set at Sephora

How flipping cool is this textured manicure?!  The rainbow set is so funky and fun.  The reviews all say that the beads fall off quickly but this would be fun for a night on the town.

4.  The byCORPUS Cap Sleeve Baby Doll Tunic from Urban Outfitters

I love tunics so much but they are usually tanks so this cap sleeved option feels extra exciting.  This is so cute and it seems like a top that I wouldn’t overheat in as the temperatures rise this summer.  I actually like the polka dot pattern best but the photo of it had an unfortunate amount of boob.

5.  Quinn Popcorn in Vermont Maple and Sea Salt

The company describes their product as “microwave popcorn revisited.”  Y’all know I’m a big popcorn fan but I think even popcorn could be elevated by maple.  My mom would love this!

Would you rock a textured manicure?

Here’s what I’m wanting this week –

1.  Deborah Lippmann’s 3D Holographic Nail Lacquer in Ray of Light

I love this shade of blue!  Normally it would be a little too electric for me but the sparkle somehow makes it more approachable.  And I like that it’s got sparkle instead of glitter.

2.  Lucia Wild Ginger & Fresh Figs Soap from Burke Decor

This handmade soap comes in such a chic bottle.  I feel like I never see fig as a bath product scent.

3.  Pinnacle Vodka in Key Lime Whipped

The Pinnacle flavors are basically genius; marshmallow! red hot! cookie dough?!?  But key lime pie is my favorite dessert so I think I’d like it the best.  You could make a wicked drink with this, key lime juice, and club soda.

4.  The Vanessa Sleeveless Tank from the Sundance Catalog

An item of clothing that is ruched and wrapped?  Jackpot!  I think this would be cute for work under a blazer or it could work with shorts for a casual look.  Grey (shown) is my favorite but the pink does have a ballerina feel to it.

5.  The Tulle Lace Layered Tank Dress from Fred Flare

I know I’ve shown similar items in the past but who can help but be obsessed with lace dresses?  And I think this one is my favorite to date!  I like that this is cream instead of white and tailored but not too tight.  If I owned blue heels I’d wear them with this dress!

Do you like flavored vodkas?  Which is the craziest flavor you’ve tried?

Can I just wish for a bazillion dollar gift card to David’s Tea?!  This time I’m unable to pick a favorite; the flavors all sound so good!  I’m unsure of how I feel about loose teas but I have seen lots of cute infusers.  I tried Cream of Earl Grey in Toronto and adored it.  I thought this week I’d just highlight a few of the flavors I think sound extra tasty –

1.  Organic Cream of Earl Grey

“Lovers of Earl Grey adore this creamy alternative to the original blend. You’ll recognize the same high-quality black tea, the same citrus burst of bergamot oil, the same beautiful grey-blue petals. However this version adds a touch of vanilla, and the result is an unexpectedly rich, creamy taste experience.”

2.  Santa’s Secret

“Ever wonder how Santa manages to deliver all those presents in just one night? Well here’s the hush-hush formula. He uses a special combination of Chinese black tea, peppermint leaves and spices – all sprinkled with real little candy canes. It’s both energizing and remarkably soothing. All Santa needs is one cup and his motto changes from “ho ho ho” to “go go go”.”

3.  Salted Caramel

“There’s no better treat than a salted caramel. You won’t find this in your history books, but we’ve heard that Romeo seduced Juliet with a salt-sprinkled toffee. Rich, buttery and sweet with a kiss of salt – who can resist? So it goes without saying that it makes for a seriously delicious tea. This is a rich black tea blend, strewn with pieces of English toffee, coconut, caramel and a touch of French sea salt. It’s guaranteed to seduce your taste buds.”

4.  Organic Buttered Rum

“Hot buttered rum is so delicious we want it all day long. Unfortunately, most employers frown on workplace drunkenness, so we came up with this rich and creamy alternative. Toasted coconut and vanilla beans mingle with black tea in a caramelized caress of flavours. Decadent hot or iced, it also blends perfectly with dark rum, brown sugar and a dash of milk – so go ahead and indulge your inner pirate, off the clock.”

5.  Birthday Cake

“What’s the best thing about birthdays? It could be the presents, or spending time with loved ones, but let’s be honest. It’s all about the cake. With vanilla icing, and lots of sprinkles. And this sweet and festive rooibos blend brings the taste of birthday cake to your cup any day of the year – sprinkles and all. Best of all, not only is it low in calories, it also has all the goodness of rooibos. Talk about having your cake and eating it too.”

Are you a tea drinker?  How do you take your tea?

Here is what caught my eye at the mall last week –

1.  The Vintage Lace Bandeau from Aerie.

When I saw this in person I thought it was adorable.  I like fiery coral (shown) and the more neutral shades but I’m not sure the neons are me.  It would be so cute peeking out the top of a summer tee.

2.  Vintage Lace Rollerball Fragrance from Aerie.

While my friends tried on bras, I sniffed through the perfumes and this scent was my favorite.  It is a mix of honeysuckle and vanilla!  I really like roller perfumes in general; they work better for travel and they make getting ready feel extra fun.

3.  The Circle Eyelet Dress from J.Crew.

How gorgeous is this blue?  I love the tailored look of this dress.  Am I cool enough to pull off eyelet?

4.  The Semiotics Juice Glass from Anthropologie.

Is it crazy that this reminds me of those panty-hose with the line up the back?  This wouldn’t go with our other stuff but it’s fun to think of the other kitchen looks I would build.  Dishwasher and microwave-safe are always a plus.

5.  The Frothed Dots Dress from Anthropologie.

At $158 this will never happen, but it’s fun to dream.  I love how this is a classier take on polka dots.  I didn’t actually get to see this in person – there was a picture in the store – but I’m dying to know how the material feels.

How often do you go to the mall?

Here’s what I’m loving this week –

1.  100% Organic Honey Bath and Shower Cream from Perlier.

I realize my weekly honey longings might seem repetitive but they all just sound so dang delicious.  Creamy bath gels make a quick shower feel luxurious.

2.  Essie Nail Polish in Navigate Her.

I’m loving this cucumber/honeydew shade.  I posted a peachy polish from Essie last week and I think this with that would make my nails look fly.  Are people still saying fly?

3.  Black Truffle Salt from The Meadow.

This stuff is pricy but I’m sure it’d be worth it.  Truffle shines wherever you put it.  When I’m a rich doctor’s wife I plan on having a whole cupboard of fancy salts.  After truffle will be lavender and then pink Himalayan.

4.  Abstract Dandelion Letterpress Coasters from Paisly Dog Press.

I love how these are funky and fun but would still work for having your grandma over for a glass of iced tea.

5.  Mummolan Marjat Paper Napkin from Marimekko.

I need these.  The berries have a great pop art look and any plate you set beside them would pop.  Sometimes when I pack my lunch for school I use a paper napkin instead of a paper towel (or my jeans!) and I feel so flipping fancy.
