Yes, You Want Cake

This post is for Katie. And for everyone – not to worry, I did eat food-food today, I just wanted to get this posted asap so y’all could enter the giveaway.

What do you get when you combine these things?

Cake!

Seriously.

My mother-in-law made this one Thanksgiving and it blew my mind. There’s also a ton of varieties on the internet, going as Crockpot Cake or Dump Cake. You can pair any combo of cake mix and pie filling that suits your fancy, so the possibilities are practically endless. And you basically just dump everything in your crock pot and go.

I had a very hard time picking a flavor combo – carrot cake mix + pineapple filling? devil’s food cake mix + cherry filling? spice cake mix + apple filling? – but in the end I decided to use Duncan Hines Classic Yellow Cake Mix and Comstock Premium Strawberry Pie Filling.

I brought my cake into class today (I actually I made it during class in the back of the room!) and everyone loved it. The 18 of us finished every last bite!

Crock Pot Cake

  • 1 box Duncan Hines Classic Yellow Cake Mix
  • 21 oz can Comstock Premium Strawberry pie filling
  • 8 Tbsp butter, chopped
  1. Spray the inside of your crock pot with baking spray.
  2. Pour pie filling into the bottom of the crock pot.
  3. Combine butter and cake mix and sprinkle on top of pie filling.
  4. Cook, 2 hours on the low setting.

  1. Wow, that crock pot cake is really cool! For my wedding cake we had chocolate almond rasperry cake with buttercream frosting and it was amazing, so I’d say that’s my favorite. I pretty much like any/all cake though- I don’t discriminate! Side note, I just found your blog and saw that you have a dachshund too! Aren’t they the best? LOVE mine!

    • “The best” is still an understatement 😉 Rascal is adorable, I just saw the post with his boots and I think my heart stopped for a second!

  2. I have two favorite cakes – yellow cake with chocolate frosting or a chocolate chip cake that was given to my family by a friend’s grandmother. That’s the one that I wanted every year for my birthdays growing up and now my nephews request it too. I can’t wait to try cake in my crock pot!!

  3. My favorite cake is probably sheet cake, MmmmmMMmmm, chocolate cake with a hint of cinnamon, so delicious! But my boyfriend’s favorite cake is chocolate cherry cake, so that would probably be a good recipe to make using your crock pot method. =)

  4. My favorite cake EVER is my Mom’s turtle cake. It’s chocolate cake with a layer of caramel/nuts/chocolate chips in the middle. Absolute HEAVEN.

  5. I loooove funfetti cake! It’s the most amazing boxed cake mix flavour, especially with vanilla icing and ice cream…this is making me hungry for cake and its not even 11am yet 😀
