Window Shopping Wednesdays

I am not much of a shopper, much to my mother’s chagrin. The woman can spend days at the mall, while I start to feel itchy after just a few hours. It’s not that I’m not materialistic, I totally am, it’s just that the thought of adding more stuff to my life makes it hard to breathe. But I like the idea of things. So I’m an avid window shopper. I browse catalogs I’ll never buy from and hold my breathe when I pass the window at J.Crew. So while I’m stuck at school all day Wednesdays, I thought we could have some fun via blog. Let’s window shop!

Here’s what I’m coveting this week –

1.  The floral cook and serve casseroles from Patina.

I love the idea of stove-to-table casserole dishes and the look of these is right up my alley.  The flowers somehow aren’t too sweet or girly, a good thing since the only dinner parties I’ll be throwing are with my male husband.  My only complaint is that the sizing is a little strange, 8 x 5.5 and 7 x 4.5.

2.  The equal tea towel from Studio Patro.

This towel is cute and useful.  I know I should know most of the exchanges (the RD exam actually tests you on some of them!) but I still get stuck on the whole pints, quarts, gallons thing.  The “cook” and “bake” towels are equally adorable.

3.  The kangaroo water bottle from Contigo.

The little flip-open compartment would be perfect for placing keys, id, and $ if I was on an outside run.  And for trips to the gym we have to carry a school id that I’m never quite sure where to put.

4.  The pretty plies ivory tulle skirt from Lulu’s.

I need this.  Preferably with an ivory, ballet pink, or black tee on top.  Or a racerback.  I’m not picky.  But definitely not with the shoes shown in the picture.  Yuck.

5.  Do Ya Think I’m Sexy by Deborah Lippmann.

I’ve decided that I’m all about the sparkle nail polish this year.  Sure, it’s a bitch to remove, but not as bad when you layer it on top of another color.  This would top pink for Valentine’s, blue and white for the 4th, and green for Christmas.

Here’s what I’m coveting this week –

1.  The test tube vases from Chive.

The style shown is the “pooley 2 8 tube classic,” but I think they are all pretty fun.  You could put as many or as few flowers as you like and I love the idea of single stems versus classic arrangements.  I’m not sure how it would look empty, but I bet it would be fantastic with a few feathers in the interims without blossoms.

2.  The pink cuckoo clock from Patina.

This is so fun and kitschy.  I think it’d be great in a kitchen, though definitely not in the same room as the test tube vase.  Random fact – Adam and I have actually never owned a clock, other than our alarm clock.

3.  A delivery of “crack pie” from Momofuku.

Now that I’ve tasted my mom’s and my efforts, I’m dying to try a slice (or pie!) of the real thing.  This pie is sweet and chewy and gooey and perfect.

4.  A bottle of Chameleon Cold Brew.

From the website – “We brew each batch low and slow for more than 24 hours at a controlled temperature to produce a super smooth, extra caffeinated concentrated coffee with less acid than traditional hot-brewed coffees. We only use 100% organic, Fair Trade Arabica coffee beans and filtered water. The rest is up to you.”  I want this, lots of ice, a big pour of Silk Vanilla Almond Milk, and a straw!

5.  The surprise pan from Chicago Metallic Bakeware.

The cupcake pan has skewers in the middle of each cup so things you put in the middle of your cupcake won’t fall to the bottom.  I’ve been dreaming of vanilla bean cupcakes stuffed with Lindt truffles for weeks and this would be so helpful.  The possibilities are endless.

What would you put in the middle of your cupcake?

Let’s go literary this week –

1. The Wilder Life: My Adventures in the Lost World of Little House on the Prairie by Wendy McLure.

This memoir is about the author’s experiences trying to live like Laura.  Since the Little House on the Prairie series was my favorite as a kid I’d love to see what she found.

2.  Death Du Jour by Kathy Reichs.

I just read the first Temperance Brennan novel (Deja Dead) and I can’t wait to tear through the rest of the series!  Think murder mystery novel but with actual, factual forensics.

3.  Sellevision: A Novel by Augusten Burroughs.

I know nothing about this book except for the fact that it is written by one of my favorite authors.  Burroughs wrote his first novel while overcoming his drinking problem; and the story describing that time (found in Magical Thinking) makes me cry every time I’ve ever read it.

4.  Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling.

I will admit that I hadn’t even heard of Mindy Kaling before I picked up this month’s issue of Self.  I don’t watch “The Office,” so sue me.  But her short interview was so funny and sweet that I immediately decided that I have to have her book.

5.  Uncompromised by Nada Prouty.

The memoir of a CIA agent wrongfully accused of betraying her country.  Apparently I’m all about memoirs.

What great books have you read recently?

Here’s what I’m coveting this week –

1. This camera pouch from Unique Vintage.

I couldn’t find the stats on the site, but if my camera would fit in here it would just be too adorably meta.

2.  The Hey Sugar Bowl from Urban Outfitters.

I swear I would eat oatmeal out of this and not just ice cream!  I’m actually in love with pretty much all of the kitchen stuff at UO right now.

3.  Water Lilly and Herbs Moist Wipes from Motif.

I can’t even imagine how good these smell, but I know for sure that they’re adorable.

4.  The Ultimate Underwear Sports Bra from Panache.

This claims to support up to an H, so I have to figure that I’d be covered.  Plus it is so cute that I’d probably find a way to wear it peeking out from under a tank top, exercise or not.

5.  A Sticky Pad from Siconi.

Supposedly, this sticks to anything.  Which means you can stick the pad to any surface and then stick any item to the pad.  Like your cell phone to the dashboard when you’re using GPS.  Or use it to put a recipe on the wooden kitchen cabinet near the stove.

Since I’ve missed a few weeks of WSW I’m going to double up; here are the 10 things I’m coveting this week –

1.   The fabric circles necklace from Boden.

Normally I ignore necklaces because my mom makes jewelry on the side and her stuff is cute and one-of-a-kind.  But I’m not sure if she could manage this one and it’s cute!  Feels totally ballerina to me for some reason.  I can see it in my head with a pink pleated skirt and black cardigan.

2.  The Silver Skinny Sparkle Bic Band.

I realize that I actually still haven’t cut my hair or gone to the gym, but once I get around to doing those two things this will come in handy.

3. A Reflective Key Cuff from Lululemon.

As long as we’re pretending, this would be really useful for when I run outside.  You know, next spring.

4.  These striped gloves from Free Hands.

I always could just get off my damn phone when I’m walking outside this winter, but with these I wouldn’t have to.

5.  The Tiered-Pleat Tank from Old Navy.

In Crimson and Clover.  I love love love details like the pleats on the front of this shirt.  And it looks like it would be adorable underneath a blazer for professional moments this winter.

6.  The Humping Bear Salt and Pepper Shakers from Urban Outfitters.

I’m pretty sure I’ve never needed something more.  Nevermind the fact that we dont’ keep salt and pepper at the table.  I call the husband “Bear” so we’ve started collecting a random assortment of bears and I think these could take any of the bears in our current collection in a fight.

7.  This Christmas plates set from Pottery Barn Kids.

How cute are those reindeer?!

8.  A Jet Pack Flying Session.

I don’t understand how this works and I don’t care, I just want to fly!  The site says come fulfill your James Bond fantasy, but I can’t be the only person who sees this and wants to pretend I’m one of the Monarch’s minions!

9.  The Refined Facial Polish from Benefit.

We’re not even into December and I’m already needing to slough winter off my skin.  Plus the packaging on this makes me smile.

10.  The Bobbing for Baubles polish from Essie.

I wish I had spotted this in time before tomorrow’s Miami trip because I would have bought it.  My nails need to be this cool.

Here’s what I’m coveting this week –

1. The Martin fit brown flannel flares from BR.

These seem comfy yet classy for winter and I like the textured look of the fabric.

2. Spice tea infused caramels.

Spice tea.  Caramels.  ‘Nuff said.

3. The Nancy Drew Shirt from Out of Print Clothing.

Everything about this shirt rocks my socks; I am ob-sessed with Nancy!  Plus the website is amazing; for every shirt purchased a book is donated to a community in need.  They have lots of classic titles too.

4. The Leftovers by Tom Perrotta.

A book about the people left behind after the rapture.  Marie Clarie described it as “[a] wry, insightful, unputdownable novel.”

5. This simply sheer pleated skirt from urban1972.com.

I’m not sure what I would layer underneath it but I love the light look of the pleats.

This week let’s look at Halloween stuff!

1. Halloween Appetizer Plates from William-Sonoma.

Hot cute would these be with a spiderweb cupcake on top?  I’ll be honest that the spider one creeps me out a little bit, but the bat is adorable.

2. Skeleton hand salad servers from Target.

These are freaking ridiculous, they might actually be my favorite thing on the list.  Some day when we have a house and are living our real life instead of our college life I plan on throwing lots of theme parties.  Target actually has a ton of cute spooky stuff this year, which means my wallet and I are keeping our distance until the holidays are over!

3. Essie nail polish in wicked.

Ghouls and goblins alike think this inky purple is fierce.

4. The world’s cutest Halloween costume.

My little hot dog dog needs this!  Adam and I actually planned on buying this but a school project has mucked up our Halloween plans so we’ll have to wait until next year.  😦

5. The Curiosity Appetizer Plates from Pottery Barn.

These are themed but don’t feel childish.  I love that they used an Edgar Allen Poe raven, though “The Fall of the House of Usher” is a lot scarier than that poem.

Are you dressing up this Halloween?  What’s your costume?  Do you dress up your pets?

Here’s what I’m coveting this week –

1. The Hidden Animal Teacups from Imm-Living.

The set of three also includes a doe and an owl  (<– Janetha want to find a third blogger to split the set?  I call dibs on the bear!).  Growing up I had an ice cream bowl with a seal at the bottom that I loved with all of my heart and these remind me a lot of that.

2. The Kitchen Counter Cooking School by Kathleen Flinn.

The memoir cookbook genre suits me just fine and Kathleen Flinn’s first book, The Sharper Your Knife the Less You Cry, was a great read.

3. Hair balm from Carol’s Daughter.

I get my frizzy hair from my mom, Carol, so this is perfect 😉

4. Pumpkin spice malted milk balls from Nuts Online.

Normally malt balls seem like a strictly Easter candy to me, but pumpkin spice sounds so interesting.

5. i love candy corn shower gel from Philosophy.

The shower products from Philosophy are out of this world (super sudsy, great smells) and upon remembering their existence I was shocked to realize that I have not bought any in several years!  I can’t think of a cuter flavor to rekindle the flame.
