Window Shopping Wednesdays

I am not much of a shopper, much to my mother’s chagrin. The woman can spend days at the mall, while I start to feel itchy after just a few hours. It’s not that I’m not materialistic, I totally am, it’s just that the thought of adding more stuff to my life makes it hard to breathe. But I like the idea of things. So I’m an avid window shopper. I browse catalogs I’ll never buy from and hold my breathe when I pass the window at J.Crew. So while I’m stuck at school all day Wednesdays, I thought we could have some fun via blog. Let’s window shop!

1.  The Vinyl Record cutting board from Joseph Jospeh.

Totally unnecessary but totally cute.  I’d probably use it to serve appetizers rather than in the kitchen.  Maybe fruit fondue dippers because of the banana?

2.  Chocolate Chunk Shortbread from Salem Baking.

I think a shortbread obsession might be my newest thing.  These just look so crumbly!  And this company bakes with natural ingredients and no trans fats.

3.  The Base Camp Ballet shoes from North Face.

These may not be quite as cute as other ballet flats (though they are still pretty darn cute!), but I bet they are a heck of a lot more comfortable!  North Face has never served me wrong with durability and function either.

4.  Bananas Foster Ready-to-Eat Cheesecake from Bananappeal.

Holy frick, is this a thing now?!  1.  Bananappeal is the cutest name ever.  2.  Best concept ever – everything is made with bananas and comes in an adorable jar.  Here’s what they say about this flavor: “Our creamy signature banana cheesecake is sandwiched between a brown sugar shortbread crust and a layer of cinnamon rum caramel whipped cream.”  Now please!

5.  The owl peephole cover from Basic French.

Again, not necessary but oh-so-cute.  There’s nothing wrong with gussying up your front door.  If Janetha ever comes to visit I need one of these.

Here’s what I’m coveting this week –

1.  Lavender shortbread cookies from Botanical Bakery.

I know it makes me seem like an old lady, but I want these so badly!  I’ve tried the cinnamon basil flavor and they were outstanding.  Very buttery and perfectly crumbly.  Since I love all things lavender I’m pretty sure this flavor would blow my mind.  I want to sit down to a plate of them with Earl Grey tea.

2.  A-Taupe the Space Needle nail lacquer from OPI.

I want to drink tea with my lavender shortbread but for my nails I need coffee!  I have a pink, ruffled blouse that this super dark taupe would look lovely with.

3.  L’Occitane’s Limited Edition Shea Butter Lip Balm in Hibiscus Flower.

I pulled a magazine sample of hand cream in this scent for the husband to use (I hate having lotion on my hands) and he smelled downright amazing.  It’d be great to have that small right under my nose all afternoon.  Hibiscus is my favorite flower so this just makes me happy.

4.  A 1000 mL Love Bottle in Orange and Bubbles.

I love the idea of serving water at a dinner party in a big glass bottle and this style is adorable.  Even better, it’s partially made with recycled glass.

5.  The Tunes for 2 Headphone Splitter from Fred Flare.

The husband and I love to listen to music from the same i-pod while we are traveling but it’s always a little annoying to only get tunes in one ear.  Per usual, Fred Flare has come up with a sweet solution to the problem.  This splitter is small enough to be tossed in my purse and cute enough to show off.

What is your favorite flower?

Here’s what I’m coveting this week –

1.  Custom US574 shoes from New Balance.

How fun are those?  You build your own style using a mix of 3 base colors and 15 accent colors.  I badly wanted to go multi-multi-colored but instead I stuck to a blend of grey and hot pink.  I don’t have $100+ to spend on shoes that aren’t for running, but if I did these would be a lot of fun.

2.  The Fleamarket Chic Plate Set from Roseanna Inc.

These would add a nice pop of color to the dinner table.  I actually sort of hate the brown flowered one, so I wouldn’t purchase these, but I like the idea of the set.

3.  The 35-piece Macaron Box from Payard.

I’ve never had a macaron (other than my great but non-authentic coconut attempt) but I am completely obsessed with them.  I have million and one recipes saved on my computer and I regularly curse myself for not knowing to try them when I lived in the city.  This box contains 7 each of vanilla, passionfruit, pistachio, raspberry lychee, and chocolate with cocoa nibs.  I’m thinking pistachio would be my favorite.

4.  The Polar Bear Mugz Ice Cream Maker from Geospace.

Too freaking cute!  It’s the same concept as shaking ice, cream, and rock salt in a bag, but in an adorable container.  The seal and penguin varieties were also pretty ridiculous, but we’re an ice bear family.

5.  Chanel Le Vernis Nail Polish in Steel.

My mom bought me a bottle of Chanel polish as a gift once and it is by far the best nail polish I own.  The colors are rich, the texture is smooth, and the brush is higher quality that my other fraying ones.  This matte grey is a cool contrast to spring’s upcoming pastels.

Have you ever eaten a macaron? Made your own ice cream?

Here’s what I’m coveting this week –

1.  Yellow Pop Herringbone Women’s Classics by TOMS.

I’ve heard nothing but good things about how comfortable TOMS are and when I finally checked out the site I couldn’t believe how cute they were too!  Could I wear these to the hospital for clinic?  I love that the company gives a pair of shoes to a child in need with every purchase.

2.  MAC Nail Lacquer in Hyperion.

This shade, a mix of light grey and blue-green, would look great with my new TOMS 😉  I think it’d be fun with a coat of multi-color glitter over the top too.

3.  The Food Bank Ric Rac Storage Bowl from Fishes Eddy.

I’m moderately obsessed with ric rac and if I have a girl child I have big plans of sewing it on the hems of all her dresses.  I love the cheery yellow of this bowl.  Even better, 5% of the proceeds from the sale of the Food Bank line at Fishes Eddy go to a NYC food bank.

4.  The Slub V-neck Tee from Lands End.

I’m all about slouchy tees for layering under blazers.  I like that this has the cute v-neck but isn’t too low-cut for business dressing.  All the colors are cute but I like graybird (shown) and antique olive best.

5.  An order of Parisienne mac and cheese from S’mac.

If you currently live in NYC I sort of hate you.  Not really, but the newest reason on my dying of jealousy list is S’mac, a mac and cheese place on East 12th Street.  The Parisienne is made with creamy Brie, roasted figs, roasted shiitake mushrooms & fresh rosemary.  Swoon.

Do you own TOMS?  What’s the verdict, should I be pining for a pair?

Can you guess what I’m coveting this week?  I’ll give you some hints – Yesterday was Valentine’s Day.  We are currently halfway through Vegan Month.

1. Salty Sweet Brownies from Baked.

Adam and I had the joy of visiting Baked in person (in the amazing Red Hook area) while we were living in Brooklyn and it kills me that I can’t go back every week.  I have their cookbook and I find myself looking at it again and again.  I’ve never tried the salty sweet brownie, but their hazelnut cake rocked my socks.  And how can you go wrong with anything that’s infused with caramel and fleur de sel?

2.  An order of Cookies and Cream Marshmallow Dream fondue from The Melting Pot.

And I quote – “dark chocolate topped with marshmallow cream flambéed and topped with bits of delicious Oreo cookies.”  I’m sorry, cookies and cream and marshmallow?!

3.  Cookie Butter from Trader Joe’s.

I know it won’t be as good as Biscoff Spread, but that doesn’t mean I don’t want to taste it and see for myself!  And I’ve heard rumors of a cookie butter stuffed dark chocolate candy bar.

4. A pint of Caramel Cookie Crunch from Talenti Gelato.

I know it seems like I love ice-cream (and I do!), but really I’m gelato’s biggest fan.  My only complaint is that it tends to be difficult to find gelato flavors with “mix-ins.”  No more.  Crunchy plus creamy is where it’s at.

5.  An assorted truffle gift box from Godiva.

There is never a worse time to be unable to eat milk chocolate than Valentine’s Day.  Yesterday every tweet about a heart-shaped box was like an arrow to the heart.  And this box has hazelnut praliné, double dark chocolate and coconut truffles.

What are you craving this week?

Here’s what I am coveting for Valentine’s Day –

1.  The heart key chain bottle-opener from UO.

I find that you never regret a bottle-opener key chain.  The need for one doesn’t come up often, but when it does you feel like a totally bad ass boy scout.  Plus this one is adorable.

2.  The Watermelon Ice Dress from Anthropologie.

I’m afraid that this is almost too precious.  But I love the cap sleeves and eyelet.

3.  Strawberries and cream malted milk balls from Oh!Nuts.

It’s becoming possible that I will include a malted milk ball variety in every WSW!  But strawberries and cream sounds like the perfect foil to the malt center.  And these are swirly red to boot.

4.  The Daydreamer LA Solid Tulip Back Tee from UO, in red.

The back of this is super cute, but the sleeves are even cuter!  I adore the back window trend but since I’m pretty busty I usually can’t play along; this shirt looks like there’s bra coverage.  And either way, this would still look pretty good with a cami layered underneath.

5.  The Dark Red Lace Skater Dress from Dorthy Perkins.

How can you not love a red lace dress?  The cut of this is fun too.  I’m not sure where I’d wear it, but I’d definitely pair it with my black Steve Madden heels.

What are you giving to your Valentine this year?

Here’s what I’m coveting this week –

1.  The warm honey nectar body wash from Upper Canada Soap.

I love the pump bottle for shower goods and you basically can’t go wrong with honey.  They also have a sweet vanilla fig version.

2.  The pins and needles 3/4 sleeve lace top from Urban Outfitters.

I’m obsessed with lace tops but I can never quite find one that is perfect.  I’m not sure about the fact that this doesn’t have a lining, but the 3/4 sleeves make its see-throughness much more sweet than tart.

3.  Maple malted milk balls from Oh! Nuts.

Two of my flavors melded into one?  This has to be good.  And I’ve tried a few other flavors of malt balls from this company and found them all to have a good texture and ratio of malt-chocolate.

4.  Tuthilltown bourbon barrel matured maple syrup from Mikuni Wild Harvet.

Speaking of maple, its marriage with bourbon would be a match made in heaven.  This would be good drizzled onto pancakes but divine when cooked into collard greens.

5.  The rolling hills of Scotland color block dress from Lulu’s.

This is flowy like I like, but not veering into pregnancy style like most of the other tunic-y items that I admire.  I’m liking the extra length in the back too.

What’s on your shopping list this week?

Here’s what I’m coveting this week –

1.  The sagaform season baking dish from Fjorn.

This stoneware dish goes from oven-to-table, and the sizing is much more reasonable than the dishes I showed you last week (13.125 x 8.875).  I love the idea of revealing the pattern as you serve your dish.  If they made a wall-hanging or rug in the same design I’d be all over it.

2.  A cheese board from Brooklyn Slate.

The board comes with a soapstone pencil so you can label your offerings; so cool.  These are made right in Red Hook, Brooklyn, a neighborhood that I adore.

3.  The animal busts from Anthropologie.

I’ve seen these in a few (super cool) bars and if I’d known that they were from Anthropologie sooner I would have loved them even more.  The paper mache busts are made with pages from French books and come in zebra, elephant, rhino, goat, and antelope in addition to giraffe.  I think they would be exactly perfect on the walls of our future study!

4.  The city bike from C. Wonder.

$249 ($349 with shipping) for a bike actually sounds doable!  I’ve been wanting a bike for ages and this super classy guy is rocking a leather seat and handlebars.  Once I save up my pennies for the next century, all I’ll have to decide is if I want navy or fuchsia.

5.  The wicker basket from C. Wonder.

For my bike, duh.  If I ever do own a bike it will be my #1 source of transportation, so I’ll need a place to put my stuff.
